In between working my 2 jobs I have been on a reading frenzy. At the beginning of this year I joined a book club started by one of my co-workers. Our first book was The Hunger Games
In this book club, the books will coincide with movie openings and stage plays coming to Northern California. So, when this movie came out last week several of us headed to our local theater (tickets purchased weeks in advance because they sold out within days!!) and waited outside in the cold for the Thursday night midnight showing.
It was tough as I had been up since 4:30am that morning and worked from 7-after 2pm. I tried to take a nap after work, to no avail......so needless to say I was exhausted by midnight. I will admit that I dozed off a couple times during the movie but I still can give my opinion....
The movie was good but not great. It did follow the book which I'm greatful for. But the movie felt rushed even though it was about 2 1/2 hrs long!! It felt like they patched together a bunch of scenes to show the highlights of the book with no thread to connect them. If I hadn't read the book I don't think I would have cared so much about the main characters! Plus, (spoiler alert) Gale is barely even in the movie!!!
I, on purpose, did not read the other 2 books until after I saw The Hunger Games. Now that I've finished this series....I'm soooo glad I waited. I loved the whole series and honestly, I can't wait until the next movie comes out!! Also, in all fairness, I am going to go back and see the movie again when I'm not so tired.
The next book in our book club was Mirror Mirror...which, the leader of this club said was to coincide with the movie coming out with Julia Roberts. She told me she tried to read it but found it difficult. I went and checked it out of the library and got to reading. I got through the first 7 chapters but found it just okay and kept finding excuses to not have time to read it.
****omg my stupid computer just posted this before I could finish :( ****
Anywho.....I saw a couple of previews to the movie and it didn't go with what I was reading. Everyone kept saying how funny this movie was going to be.....UH.....I didn't find ANYTHING funny about this book so I decided to do a little checking. Come to find out the book and movie are completely unrelated!!! I told the leader of the group..... really, she couldn't have done a little research before she had us read it???? Anyway since I didn't really like the book and stopped reading it.
Now that I'm done with the Hunger Games series I've decided to tackle the Twilight series. Yes I've seen all of the movies....but I haven't read any of the books. I'm starting Twilight tonight.
As for the rest of my life.....I have a birthday coming up this weekend. I will actually be working on said birthday.....but on Monday I will be spending in the Bay Area for the day ending with a trip to ATT Park to see the SFGiants v Oakland A's in the final spring training series before the season starts. I'm so excited cause I haven't been to a game in a couple of years....
Well, that's all for now. Here's wishing everyone a great weekend!!
