New Hair - New Attitude

Yes, really!!! :)

I had a hair appt this morning.  When I got to the salon I told my hair stylist that I needed a change.  I have let my hair grow out all year only allowing her the barest of trims each visit.  It is/was down to the middle of my back--my hair grows fast!!  It felt heavy and looked like it was all one length (aka "no style").  I told her I didn't know what I wanted, but I was ready for a style.

She cut it to my shoulders and layered the hell out of it!!  It's bouncy and shiny again....and I am beyond happy!!  Well, honestly, my hair is always pretty shiny.  I don't really do anything special to it, but my hair has always been very very healthy.

No, I don't have any pictures.  Probably should take some now because I'm sure it won't look this good until my next appt!! lol  She told me at my last appt that she was going to darken my hair this time going into the cooler weather, but she used the same lighter shade as usual.  I was actually looking forward to it, but since it's still in the 90's here in Northern California--with no cold weather in sight (YAY!!)--I can understand.  So, it'll be at my next appt when it will (maybe) actually be colder?!

My mom called me a few minutes ago to let me know that they had to put their dog, Tesi, to sleep yesterday.  She was 14 years old and the sweetest and nicest dog ever!!!  Oh, and the most spoiled!!  Even more spoiled than my kitties!!  She hasn't been well for a very long time.  My whole family took it hard.....especially my sister.  She always said it was her dog, even though it wasn't.  She wasn't just a family pet.....we all loved her so much.  I don't have a picture of Tesi that I can post on the computer.....just some pictures from my 35mm from several years ago that I haven't put on a disc yet.  She was half boxer and half something else.  I always thought she was part Lab but that wasn't it.   We will all miss her very much

R.I.P. Tesi

Except for the news about Tesi, I am back to my happier, more positive self!!  It's amazing to me how one haircut can change my attitude!!  I no longer feel uninspired as I was just yesterday.  Now I feel like anything and everything can be done!

Happy Friday to all and I'm wishing you all a SUPER weekend!!!

Tired and Uninspired

Happy Thursday everyone!!  Wait a's Thursday already??  Where has the week gone?  Again, I've failed in my plan to blog more regularly.  But this time it's not really a lack of time but rather a lack of inspiration.  Right now I'm just working and sleeping......and that's not too exciting to write about!!

And it's fun to do the blog hops and links, but...........

So, here I sit at my computer trying to think about what to write about---and my mind is completely blank.  Sad but true :(

Today was a much needed day off.  This morning I met a friend at Starbucks for a little catch up session.  It was very early....8:15am (early for me on a day off anyway!).  We visited for about 3 1/2 hours before she had to pick up her youngest from school.  The rest of the day was spent running errands, paying bills, food shopping and decorating.  Exciting, right?!  I came home and finally (almost) finished putting up all of my Halloween decorations.  Usually I decorate at the very beginning of the month but, again, I was totally uninspired this year and decided I wasn't going to decorate at all.  Then I was reading another blog last week and she had posted pictures of her Halloween decorations, so that inspired me.

On top of that I was told we can dress up at work--as long as the costume isn't too revealing (i.e. not too slutty/sleazy).  So, off I went to the Halloween shops around town looking for something to wear....who doesn't like to dress up??!!  Well, honestly, all I could find were inappropriate for work costumes!! :(  Since Halloween falls on a Sunday, I always work the early morning shift which is always non-stop busy until about 3pm.  So I need a costume without any hear gear (wigs, hats, ears, etc), not too long but not too short, must have sleeves but nothing too long or droopy,  nothing too heavy so I don't overheat running around the restaurant, etc..........If I were going to work the night shift it would be easy since it won't be busy and I would only have to worry about the slutty/sleazy thing!  But don't get me wrong, I do NOT want to give up my day shift just to dress up!!  That's just crazy!! haha  So, at this time I haven't decided whether or not I will be dressing up for work, but at this moment I am leaning towards no.

I've been watching Biggest Loser and Thintervention with Jackie Warner each week and it makes me want to get out and do hard core exercises like they do......unfortunately, my left ankle is still sore and I cannot run or jump on it right now.  It's still healing from whatever damage I did to it by wearing the wrong shoes to work for a month.  I know I can do other forms of exercise besides running/walking/jumping and always make plans to do something but laziness keeps creeping in.

Okay, enough about my depressing life :P lol  How does everyone feel about tonights premiere of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?

I know I've said I wasn't looking forward to it, but while working on decorations today I had the TV on (wow, what a shock, right?!) and turned it on to the Wendy Williams show and all of the ladies from Beverly Hills were on.  Now, I can't wait for it to start.  I think it's going to be a lot better than the DC franchise....although I started liking it a little more towards the end and am actually excited to see the reunion tonight!!  Honestly, though, I would be happy if Tariq and Michaele Salahi would just slither away!!!!

Tonight also is Project Runway which I am also addicted to!

I really love Mondo.  I think he is an incredible designer and hope he gets to Fashion Week!!  I am so glad Ivy is gone....she was Negative Nellie.  But my least favorite this season has been Gretchen....since the very first episode.  I don't know how she has won anything?!  I don't find her designs memorable or inspirational at all!!  I really think there are 3 much better designers.....

I've also been watching The Apprentice (Thursday's are busy TV nights)

This is the first time I've watched a non-Celebrity edition and I'm actually really liking it.  Masa (is that her name) is way too aggressive and I can't believe she is still there.  I don't mind people being outspoken but she is too much and a negative in my opinion.  I hope she doesn't get too much farther in the competition!!

Anywho.....that's enough about my boring and uninspiring life and my opinions on TV shows!!  I am really exhausted right now and need to go make dinner.  I am making a healthy dinner tonight:  Baked chicken, sweet potato, brussel sprouts and a salad.

I will try and check in tomorrow, so until then........

5 Question Friday

Happy Friday everyone!!  Actually I'm writing this Thursday night and happily watching my San Francisco Giants play in their first post season playoffs in 7 years!!  Right now my team is beating the Atlanta Braves 1-0.  But, just like the rest of the season, watching the SF Giants games can be completely TORTUROUS for their fans!! lol

Anyway, it's time for another 5QF.  If you want to play along and link up, head on over to My Little Life.

And....without further are the 5 questions:

1. What do you listen to while driving?
I either listen to KNBR (San Francisco sports channel), or music. I am a channel changer in the car.  I listen to lots of different music and stations, although my fave is the local KISQ (R&B and classic soul music).

2. What is your least favorite thing about Fall?
The only thing about fall I really don't like is that it gets darker earlier :( Like tonight, for example, it was dark by 7:30.

3. What does your dream house look like, inside and out?
I really have to think about that since it's changed as I've gotten older.  It used to be a huge 2 story home.  But really, who wants to spend all of their spare time cleaning?? And I would NEVER pay someone to do something I am perfectly capable of--plus I don't want people/strangers touching my stuff and doing my laundry!!  Yeah, I have issues!!  Anyway, I would like:  (inside) 3 bedrooms, 2.5  bath, living room, dining room, family room, vaulted ceilings, lots of windows/light, HUGE master bath w/shower AND bath, walk in closet (I miss that!! Although I do have a huge closet now), and a huge kitchen (really my fave room).  (outside) simple front yard with a nice big "porch"-area and a huge backyard with a swimming pool and lots of patio space for family and friends.  Oh, and a 3-car garage (one for my car, one for storage and one just for the extra space :P

4. Would you ever own a minivan?
NO.  I would NEVER own a minivan.  To me a minivan is like the old station wagon. BLEH!!! (Just got shivers down my spine just thinking about that!!)

5. Do you wash new clothes before wearing them?
I know you are supposed to and I always intend on doing it, but I will be
Have a great weekend!! And enjoy the beautiful fall weather, wherever you are.....

It's Wednesday already???

Happy Hump Day everyone...I can't believe the week is half over already!  At work today I got confused and thought it was Tuesday (probably because I normally work Tuesdays but was actually off yesterday).  Our "week" for scheduling goes from Thursday to Wednesday.  I have no idea why....kinda random though......Honestly, most of the time I have no idea what day or date it is!!!

When I went in to work last week I realized they had changed my schedule for "next" week (starting tomorrow) and instead of having my normal 5 days, I was down to 3 days!! :( It happened to several servers.  I was informed that the owner had cut the schedule because we had too many servers scheduled.  I figured out that it was those of us who worked 12-8 and 2-10 shifts that were affected.  I was bummed but was assured that it was only for this one week so, okay.....extra time off to get things done around the house (fall "spring" cleaning).

My schedule was working today and then off until Sunday, then off Monday and work Tuesday and Wednesday.  So, like I said, I had my 3 days off (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) planned out to get my house ready for the winter months.  Lo and behold, when I got to work this morning I noticed that I was added on to the schedule for Friday night.  Then one of my co-workers asked me if I could pick up his shift tomorrow because of an appt.  Of course, I said yes!!  Yay--I have my 5 days back, which is so terrific!  Someone was looking out for me, I think, and I have to say a big THANK YOU!!  Positive thoughts and prayers really do work.......

I had a great day at work and still had plenty of energy afterward to do a lot of housework and rearranging.  I finally stopped a few minutes ago to start dinner.  Also, all of my shows are coming on soon:  Hells Kitchen, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, Law and Order: SVU, Law and Order: Los Angeles, and Top Chef: Just Desserts.  Yes, I somehow will be able to see all of these shows tonight.

Oh, did anyone see the season 3 premiere of Real Housewives of Atlanta the other night??

Any thoughts?? I really didn't think I was going to like the Atlanta franchise when it first aired but I am hooked and always happily await the craziness each season brings.  I don't have any opinions on the new housewives yet.  Kinda sad to see Lisa Wu-Hartwell leave the series, but at the same time her storyline was a little blah last season, so.....

Here's wishing everyone had a terrific day today and a great rest of the week!!!  Happy TV watching :P

My Weekend Wrap-Up

Happy Monday to everyone!!

I know that I've been mostly M.I.A. since I went back to work.  It's been hard to find the time to sit and read everyone's blogs AND write a post of my own!!  So, unfortunately I've been mostly doing blog hops, etc....  So, I will try and be a better blogger starting today.  Let's see how long it lasts?! :P

So let me wrap up my weekend.  One of my co-workers asked me to work her Saturday night shift and she would work my Tuesday night (tomorrow) shift.  I said HELL TO THE YES to that since I would now get 2 days off in a row.

On Saturday, my San Francisco Giants were playing the San Diego Padres and if they won, would win the NL West division.  It was supposed to be a night game, but since it was an important/significant game "they" (MLB) changed the time to afternoon and aired it on FOX (aka "national" tv instead of our local station).   It sucked for a lot of fans, I guess, but for me worked out perfectly.  I was able to watch the game and then go to work.  Unfortunately, they didn't win the game and, now that I was in a foul mood, I had to go to work and be nice!!

It wasn't as busy as I was told it was going to be.  It was an okay Saturday night.  I ended up closing, which is fine but then I had to be back at work at 8am on Sunday.  Well, I finally got out of there at around 12:20 am and then I actually took my tired butt over to have a drink with some co-workers.  Yes, seriously!!!  I had one Smirnoff Ice and was on my way.  I didn't get home until about 1:40am.  I was asleep by 2am.

And, if you can believe it, I was actually awake by 6am and at work early!!  It was non-stop busy, of course, which was great and I was done and outta there by 3:30.  Got home just in time to see the end of the San Francisco Giants game (the last game of the regular season).  I watched our closer, Brian Wilson, retire the side and the pandemonium begin once my team became the NL West division Champions!!  And, yes, I really did get all teary-eyed!!  I'm a lifelong SFGiants fan and it's always a thrill to see your team get to post season.  Not that it happens much here in the Bay Area (for ANY sport!!).

Oh.....and on Saturday night I had a phone message that my Aunt Patricia from Southern California called and wanted me to call her back.  I didn't even know she had my phone number but my parents just got back from visiting them (and Disneyland) so I guess they asked my mom for my number.  Well, since I got the message after I got off of work I wasn't going to call them then so it would have to wait until I got off of work on Sunday.

I called and left a message with my aunt after work and she called a couple of hours later.  She told me that one of my cousins and his fiancee were getting married next July.  I told her I knew because my mom had told me a couple of months ago.  She then proceeded to tell me that my cousin and his fiancee wanted me to be a part of their wedding!  What??????

I totally was NOT expecting that!  My aunt and uncle moved to Mexico when my cousins were very small.  This cousin was about 7 or 8 years old when they moved and I have only seen him once since then and that was 2 years ago.  I met his fiancee at that time too.  I got teary-eyed again (twice in one day.....that HAS to be a record!!).  My aunt told me my cousin wasn't home and his fiancee doesn't speak English well and was afraid I wouldn't understand her on the phone so they asked my aunt to call and ask me.  Then she said my other male cousin (who is the wedding planner) said that I would be walking down with him and that I'd better say yes or he was coming up here to make me!! haha  Of course I said yes.  I take it as an honor!!  I have tons of cousins, and they know them better than me, so to be the only cousin chosen to be in the wedding.....all I can say is WOW!! I am so excited.

I've never been a bridesmaid.  Like myself, when my friends got married, they didn't have bridesmaids.  I had an outdoor wedding and only had my exes niece and nephew in the wedding.  Now, the only reason for this was because I just wanted my 5 closest friends & sister in the group and HE wanted every guy who was even a remote friend in the wedding party (last count was at least 10).  He wanted me to "just pick some girls to make it the same number as the guys".  I told him I wasn't going to pick random girls just to even the numbers and since he wouldn't lower the number, he decided we wouldn't have ANY.  That was my first clue I should have run for the hills!!  My friends and brother all went to Reno, Lake Tahoe, or Las Vegas to get married.  And, my sister has yet to marry.

I will have to take a couple (few) trips down to LA for trying on dresses, etc....Oh darn, I'm oh so upset about that!! :)  As I always say, things happen for a reason.  I have been trying to get back to exercise and eating right in order to lose weight but there's always an excuse (reason) why I never really follow through.  Well, I was told the dress will be black (possibly with a little hot pink) and strapless.  They didn't tell me if it was fitted or not but I am going to assume it is.  I'm sooooo NOT ready for that!!  They will be ordering dresses by January so since we are now into OCTOBER, I don't have a lot of time to lose weight.  Honestly since I started working last month I have lost almost 10 lbs!!  And that's without exercising at all....just eating less and drinking tons of water.  Let's see what happens when I finally throw some exercise into the mix?!?!?!  Fingers crossed I can lose another 10-20 lbs by January.  Jackie Warners book is going to come in handy right now!!

Lately we've had a bit of a heatwave here in Northern California where the temperatures been in the high 90's to 100's.  I loved it, but most people did not.  This morning I awoke to MUCH cooler temperatures.  Normally I'm not happy about that, but it was a nice change of pace.  So I got up, took a shower and got ready.

Now, let me preface the following by saying that I got a notice a week or two ago that the property mgmt company was going to paint the exterior of all of the duplexes this week.  Anyway, I went out to get my paper when I heard my doorbell ring.  I opened the front door and my door was taped off with plastic!!!  So, I went to my kitchen (I don't have any windows in my livingroom.  I know, it's totally weird!!) and looked out of the window and it too is taped off.  So was my second bedrooms window.  Apparently while I was taking a shower and getting ready the painting crew had arrived and started working.  So, uh, thanks for letting me know guys!!

I didn't know if they were taping off my garage door too?!  I park my car in the garage and it would suck to be literally stuck in my house the WHOLE day!!!  Finally one of the guys came to MY bedroom window to tape it off and I peeked my head out to ask him if I could get my car out of the garage.  I think I scared the hell out of him because he jumped back when I said hello......He assured me that I could exit that way and I was on my way.  I got home a while ago and the front of my house is still taped off and doesn't look much different.  I guess they finished the back because the tape is off all of the windows/sliding door.  I haven't gone out there to see.

Anyway, that's my weekend.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!!  And, Happy Monday!

Friday Five

It's Friday and time for Friday 5. If you want to play and link up, head on over to Just Me and My Life.  This weeks topic is:

5  TV shows that are coming back on the fall season lineup that you have missed over the summer.

I'll be good and only pick "real" TV shows and NO reality shows...

1.  Modern Family

This is THE funniest show on TV.  The best cast....and it hasn't disappointed in its sophomore year!! :)

2.  Desperate Housewives

I have watched this show from the very beginning.  And, except for the 2nd season, it's been a great ride!!

3.  Criminal Minds

This is the BEST show on TV.  I love it!!  I'm so glad A&E shows the past seasons regularly.  I can never get enough!!

4.  CSI: Crime Scene Investigation/ CSI: Miami/Law and Order: SVU

I love love love all 3 of these shows.  I also love Law & Order: Criminal Intent and the original Law & Order.

5.  FOOTBALL!!!!!

Now, I'm NOT talking college football....only the NFL.  My team is the Oakland Raiders.  I also like the Cincinnati Bengals, the Philadelphia Eagles, and, now that Donovan McNabb is on the team, Washington Redskins.

Right now I'm watching my San Francisco Giants try and beat the San Diego Padres tonight to clinch the NL West.  Fingers crossed!!

Wishing everyone a Happy Friday and a super weekend....

Theater Thursday

I see this link up every week and am always late.  After last week I promised myself I would link up and play along.  So, if you want to link up and play, head on over to Crazy Shenanigans.

So, for my first week of a movie, I choose.....  Copycat

Copycat is about a serial killer in San Francisco, two SF police detectives MJ Monahan (Holly Hunter) and Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) and how respected criminal psychologist, Dr Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), is an intregal part of the whole thing.  The movie starts out a year earlier, when  Dr Hudson gives a speech at a university and then is attacked by one of her previous subjects, Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr).  Fast forward a year, when Daryll Lee is in prison, a series of murders occur which imitate previous killings by famous serial killers.  Dr Helen Hudson finds herself becoming an unwillingly participant to this crime and Darryl Lee Cullum, although in prison is also very much involved.

This is one of my favorite movies.  And even though I've seen it a million times, it still scares me---although it is NOT a horror movie.  The cast is excellent!! If you haven't seen it, you really should.  I watch it every chance I get.  And, even though I own the dvd, when I see it's on regular TV I always watch!!
