R.I.P. Cuatro-- 8/30/2010

Well, as you can tell from the title, my little Cuatro is gone.  As I said in my post yesterday, my parents took him to the vet.  When I got off of work last night, I called my mom who told me that they were going to keep him overnight and that when I got off of work today I was to call her and then go from there.  Okay, that's fine.

So, today once I was off work, I called my mom.  She said she would be over to my house to pick me up and we would head over to the vet.  She told me she would explain everything at that time.  I asked her if they were going to have to put him to sleep.  She didn't say anything for a second, but then simply said "yes".  I started bawling--right there in my car (I was walking to my car when I called her).  Then when I wouldn't stop crying....she added "Well, I was going to tell you this when I picked you up because I didn't want you crying while you were driving home, but since you're already crying I'll just tell you.........Cuatro passed away sometime last night at the vets."  Apparently the vet told my mom that's what would probably happen, but my mom, knowing that I worked last night and then had to go back to work first thing this morning, decided to keep that from me until after I got off work today because she knew I would have cried all night and not been able to work today.  My mom knows me too well.

I felt guilty because I thought I had missed something and waited too long to take him to the vet.  Well, apparently, he died from the FIV (or I guess you would call it "full blown feline AIDS").  The vet said he had nodules (about 5) in his stomach and he thought (but wasn't sure without tests) that other organs were shutting down, or whatever happens.  My mom said that it was a good thing we took him in yesterday because otherwise, when I came home from work last night, I would have found him dead. :(  But she told me that the vet said even if I had brought him in when I first noticed he wasn't well, nothing would have changed, he would have still passed away...there was nothing I could do.

I'm going to miss my little Cuatro.  For being a feral stray he was a gentle little guy.  My mom told me today that she loves all of my cats, but that Cuatro was her favorite.  She always looked forward to seeing him.  I am so incredibly sad.  I still haven't gotten over my other cat, Maddie, passing almost 2 years ago in October.

I still have 2 other cats to take care of:  Shadow and Baby.  Shadow is about 14 years old and Baby is about 7 years old.  They are in very good health but to make sure, they are heading to the vet's office Thursday for check-ups and shots to put my mind at ease.

I know this is a part of life, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.  I will miss him every day, just like Maddie.  But I know life has to go on, it'll just be different......

A prayer for Cuatro......

I just got off of the phone with my vet.  As I said in previous posts one of my cats, Cuatro, has been very sick recently.

He is a feral stray I took in back in March 2001.  At that time the vet guestimated that he was about 4-5 years old...which would now make him around 14 years old.  In 2007 he was "officially" diagnosed with FIV (feline HIV) but they think he's had it since before I had him.  The vet's have always been amazed at how healthy he's been.  That all ended 2 weeks ago.  All of a sudden he stopped eating.  And, as I've said before, he has always been a voracious eater!  So, for him to stop eating, there has to be something wrong!!

I was encouraged when he started eating again.  Although he wouldn't eat the dry food--only wet food that I usually give my cats as a treat several times a week--I was happy that he was getting his appetite back and figured he would eventually start eating the dry food again.  Then he would stop eating again for a day and then start eating, etc.....this back and forth has been going on this whole time.  Trying to deal with this on top of starting my new job.....it's been a very stressful time.

Yesterday seemed to be a good day.  He ate quite a bit and drank a lot of water.  It was my day off so I had all day to watch him to see what he does all day.  I even saw him eating some dry food out of his bowl!!  I had a feeling he had been eating some when I wasn't home these past few days as his bowl has been nearly empty, as compared to 2 weeks ago when it stayed full the whole week.  My other 2 cats have their own bowls and neither one of them are big eaters.

The only bad thing I noticed yesterday was goop in one of his eyes.  He always has a little, but this just seemed more than usual.  I decided to watch it and if it continued I would take him to the vet.  Well, this morning I got up, did some housework and then ran some errands before I had to go to work tonight.  When I got home I couldn't find Cuatro in any of his usual sleeping places.  I found him in my back bathroom laying on the floor.  I have one of their litterboxes in that room and they only go in there to use the box.  So this was very very unusual.  When I called his name he looked up at me. There was goop around his eye and he just looked terrible.

I broke down crying and I realized that this may be it.  It was the same look my other cat, Maddie, had back in 2008 when it was her time to go.  I was completely devastated but knew I had to do what was best for HER, not me.  I had to go to work (as usual) so my parents took her to the vet for me and called me to let me know that I had to make a decision.  My boss let me leave early and I rushed to the vet to say goodbye to her.   I don't have children, so they are my babies.  Letting Maddie go was devastating to me and I haven't totally gotten over it.  I had her since she was 5 weeks old and she was 12 years old when she died.  Even though I've been through this within the last 2 years, it doesn't get any easier.

So anyway, I called my parents and the vet this afternoon and Cuatro has an appt in an hour.  Since I have to go to work(this is a new job so no, I won't be asking for time off) my parents are stopping by to pick Cuatro up and take him to the vet.  I've been crying since I found him and I need to buck up and not look sad since I'll be facing the public and will be expected to smile and be happy during my shift.  Some major acting will be happening tonight, let me assure you!!

I am hoping that it isn't the end, but I am realistic and will be prepared for whatever happens.  I'm hoping that if it is time for him to go, I will at least get to see him one more time.  Unfortunately, I work until closing tonight and then have to be back first thing in the morning.  So, that means holding off until tomorrow late afternoon once my shift ends.

I don't ask people for things for myself.  But, please say a prayer for my kitty.  I'm going to go spend some time with him before my parents come to pick him up.  Thank you......

Five Question Friday and Fill In The Blank Friday

Hi again everyone!!  Yes, it's Friday and time for Five Question Friday.  If you want to link and play, head on over to My Little Life.

1.  How many pets do you have?

I have 3 cats.  2 boys (Shadow and Cuatro) and 1 girl (Baby)

2.  If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

Hmmm, that's a tough one.  Maybe Oprah....she's pretty awesome.

3.  What is your favorite money saving tip?

Don't use credit cards.  If you can't pay cash, you probably don't really need it!!
Another tip is to save all of your change for a year.  A friend of mine taught me that and she ended up with a few hundred dollars....enough to do all of her Christmas shopping!!!

4.  What do you want your kids to be when they grow up?

I don't have kids, but if I did, I would want them to be successful and fulfilled in whatever they decide to do.  I would encourage them to go after their dreams and know that anything is possible.  Yes, and being happy goes along with all of that!!

5.  What is your favorite quote?

I have a few:

"There are two ways to slide easily through life: to believe everything or to doubt everything; both ways save us from thinking."-- Alfred Korzybski

"Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are"-- Bernice Johnson Reagon

"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from our own actions." -- Dalai Lama

"Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely." -- Karen Kaiser Clark

"Average people like to be average because no one bothers them." -- Kelly Cutrone on The City

Here's another one....Fill In The Blank Friday......here goes:

1.  The most adventurous thing I've ever done is: travel solo.  I've taken a road trip through Northern and Southern California, went to Philadelphia, Disneyland, Las Vegas, and the big one was went to England for a couple of weeks.  All on my own!!

2.  If I were a pair of shoes I would be:  a pair of red stilettos.  My fave color and my fave type of shoes.....

3.  My preferred mode of digital communication is:  I don't have one, really, but if I have to pick one it would be the computer.  And, more specifically, Facebook.  I like that if someone is one FB you can instantly "talk" with them through IM.  Second would have to be texting.  One thing I really dislike is talking on the phone....I'd rather go to my friends house and see/hang out with them then talk to them on the phone.

4.  I am happiest when:  I am traveling or hanging out/doing something fun with loved ones.

5.  A little dream I have for my life is:  I don't have "little" dreams.  Actually, I just take it a day at a time.  I'm not into thinking/worrying too much about the future.

6.  The one modern convenience I could NOT do without is:  I remember when we didn't have cell phones, etc.....so I know I could make it without any of that stuff.  I would like to keep my TV though :P

7.  Music, movies, TV or books:  if you could only choose one to enjoy I would pick:  Books.  I love all 4 definitely!!  But books let you use your imagination and that can't be beat!!

Well, those are the questions for the week.  Work is going well.  I had to stay up late Wednesday night and wait for my schedule for yesterday as it wasn't done when I left work.  Luckily I worked night shift last night...and again tonight.  I like the morning shifts, not because I enjoy getting up that early (I don't), but like getting my shift over with and have my nights free.  But, I have to say, I have enjoyed sleeping in the last 2 day!  But my schedule is all over the place with days and nights, so I'm not going to get used to it.

Wishing everyone a great weekend.  I am happy that I have this Sunday off!!  Yay, TGIF!!

Happy Hump Day Wednesday & Reality TV on Bravo

As I sit here at my computer it is about 108*F degree's where I am.  I know most people are saying "Ugh" right about now--but I love the heat.  I worked this morning and it was hot enough that my air conditioner came on right before I left for work, at about 7:40am.  I set my a/c at around 78*F  I, personally, wasn't very busy in my station today so I got to leave early, at 2:00pm.

I came home in time to watch my San Francisco Giants game.  They were losing 10-1 against the Cincinnati Reds.  I sat and watched awhile.  They were able to make up a little ground while I sat and watched-- to 10-5.  But I had things to do so I left, thinking there was no way they were coming back to win this thing.

I was trying to listen on the radio between stops.  After my last stop I got in my car and heard that the SFGiants did the unthinkable--not only did they come back, but they passed the Reds.  11-10.  However, due to an error by Pablo Sandoval (or as SFGiants fans call him:  Fat Boy), who overthrew the ball from third base to first base, a run scored and the Reds tied it up  11-11 in extra inning.  Honestly, I didn't see any of that, I just heard about it.  Then, Bruce Bochy, the Manager, ran out of pitchers in the bullpen (including our closer, Brian Wilson) so they had to have one of our starters, Barry Zito, come in and pitch.  He gave up a run in extra innings and our offense couldn't score so the Giants lost 12-11.  At least they didn't lose 10-1.

Sorry to any non-baseball fans who had to read through that!!  Kind of sorry I left to run errands.  Even though my team lost, it was a great game to see!

While I was out and about today, I decided to stop by Costco to get a watermelon.  It is so hot outside, but I am not really hungry and that sounded really good and refreshing.  Once I got home, while watching the last inning of the game, I cut up the watermelon and am enjoying a nice bowlful of it! :)

So, who watched Real Housewives of New Jersey finale Monday night??  What did you think?  I still think Danielle is a total "loon" and her gangsta friend, Danny, is a puppet and wannabe tough guy.  He's one of those who tries to act cool and tough....but he looks short, so maybe he suffers from short man complex??  Anyway, I hope Danielle isn't back next season with her middle class, or lower, friends.  Honestly, I thought the Real Housewives franchise was supposed to be about wealthy people.  If I want to see middle class, I can drive around the suburb I live in!!

I have really grown to like Caroline Manzo this season.  I loved the sitdown with her and Danielle.  Danielle is an idiot and never answered Caroline's question as to what did Caroline ever do to her (Danielle), or something like that.  She threw it back to Caroline to answer---and Caroline did.  Danielle knew she was wrong and thought she was being slick, but we are smarter than that!! haha  Anyway, I can't wait for next weeks reunion special.

I watched Flipping Out and Rachel Zoe Project last night.   I love both of these shows.  It seems like Jenni isn't really on the show anymore and they are mostly showing Sarah, who is a total ditz.  And, we all know that if she wasn't Jeff's sis-in-law's sister, she would NOT be working there.  I miss seeing Jenni all of the time.

As for RZP, it was crazy as usual.  I think Rachel Zoe is so lucky to be married to Rodger, who really has to tolerate a lot!!  He's a great support system for her.

Tonight is Top Chef.  I am not really into this show anymore this season because my favorite, Kenny, was eliminated on the Restaurant Wars episode.  I don't think most of the contestants this season are half as good or interesting as contestants in seasons past.  I only like Kevin and Tiffany......and Angelo, a little little bit (and only because he is a talented chef).  Ed is okay too.  But this season is just "eh" to me.

Who has watched Real Housewives of DC?  What do you think?  I am not liking it, and from what I've heard, it's gotten bad reviews.  Of the 5 ladies, I only like Mary.  I could really care less about the others.  And, except for Cat's husband, no one has anything to do with the political scene in DC and it's just a bunch of women who barely know each other or like each other.  I'll probably watch the rest of the season (or not, I haven't really decided) and if it comes back, I won't watch again.  Can anyone say:  BORING!!!

Well, I think that's all for now.  I'm going to sit back and relax and have some more watermelon.  I have to call in to work tonight to see if I work tomorrow, and if so, what time because they didn't have the schedule done after today!!  So, I'm kinda hoping I'm off just so I don't have to worry about it.  But that means I'll work the weekend, which, since I haven't been working in a long while, is A-OKAY with me!! lol :)

Top 2 Tuesday

Can you believe it?  I don't post for almost a week, and now you're getting two in one day!  I missed a few blog hops this past weekend, so I am going to participate in this week's Top 2 Tuesday.  If you want to play along hop on over to The Undomestic Momma and link up!!

So, this weeks top 2 subject is:

Top 2 Biggest Indulgences

Well, where do I start on this one....there are a few! lol
1)  Spa/Salon Pampering

This includes massage, manicures, pedicures, facials, mud baths.  It also includes getting my hair cut and highlighted.  Well, not really cut--that's a necessity, but definitely the highlighting.  And, that highlighting is definitely NOT cheap.....right now, it's my only indulgence in this category until I start waitressing regularly.  I actually have a hair appt tomorrow (Tuesday) for said highlighting!!  I'm SO looking forward to it!!  Hopefully soon, I can start to indulge in a few of the others....first will be a pedicure!! haha
2)  Starbucks

Yes, it is an indulgence. Even with my Starbucks Gold card (where I get the sugar free Cinnamon Dolce syrup for free) my drink is still almost $4.00 a day!!  Add that up for 365 days per year....and it's a whopping $1350.00 (at $3.60 per drink).  Then add in a tip.  Yes, I tip at Starbucks--and very well.  My local one is awesome! They know my name & drink.  This year I haven't been indulging every single day like I normally do, but that will be changing soon!!
3)  Traveling

Yes, I am going to add a third one.  I LOVE to travel and didn't get to do much when I was married.  My ex didn't like to travel, so once I was divorced, I started going places.  Again, I haven't been anywhere since my job ended last September 2009---unemployment does that to you.  So, you know the travel bug has got me totally ready to go someplace--ANYPLACE!!  I know I want to go to San Francisco Giants spring training next year in Scottsdale, AZ.  And, I am long overdue to visit one of my most fave places:  The great Sin City of Las Vegas, NV.  Besides that, we'll see!!??  This is really one of my favorite indulgences that has been hardest to let go of......so, watch out world, it's only a matter of time before I am back on the road again.......well, more likely, back on the airplane again!!
There are a few other indulgences, but I think 3 is enough ;)

And, on a side note...Congrats to Miss Mexico for winning the Miss Universe pageant.  And a shout out to Miss Philippines for making Top 5 (she was 4th runner up).  If you're wondering about this shout out....I am half-Filipina and always proud when a fellow Filipino(a) does well or wins anything!! Oh, and when was the last time a Miss USA didn't make the Top 15??  Holy cow!!  Actually, I didn't really watch Miss Universe, only turned it on at the beginning to see the opening to introduce the girls, and then when they picked the Top 15, 10, & 5.  I skipped the rest.  I was watching my beloved San Francisco Giants demolish the Cincinnati Reds and then The Real Housewives of NJ.  I'm watching the replay of RHONJ because I missed some of it switching channels around!!

It's been a looong weekend!! Hello, Monday!

Yes, I've been M.I.A. since last Wednesday.  Between training and taking care of my kitty, etc... I have had a lot going on and haven't had time to post or read everyone elses posts.  When I started blogging a couple of months ago, I wasn't working so I had all day to post or read and comment, etc.  So, now I am trying to navigate working and blogging--along with the rest of my life! lol  And, since I'm a server, I can't sit at my desk at work and blog, so I have to find time when I get home.  :P

Well, training was over on Sunday and we had the "soft" opening today.  I worked 8-4.  We weren't too busy but it was crazy none-the-less.  Anyone who has ever served before and has gone through opening a new restaurant understands the hell that is opening day/week.  It gets better, but no matter how well you think you've trained your staff, you're still going to have snafu's and problems.

I've opened a restaurant before with my ex-husband.  Even with our experience it was hard and stressful at first, but got easier.  Today was no different--but everyone handles things in a different way.  I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of girl.  Not much upsets me and I look at the big picture.  Several of my co-workers are definitely NOT that way.  One of them quit about an hour into his shift.  A couple of others said they were going to quit because they hated it.  How can you hate something after one day??  If you seriously thought that things were going to be simple and easy....you are definitely in the wrong business!  And every server they hired supposedly had experience!!  C'mon people, grow the hell up!!!

Sorry, I'm just happy to have a job in this economy and it wasn't THAT bad!  Yes it was crazy and a little unorganized, but--whatever?!  My sales weren't that high but I made really good tips.  I know today was definitely NOT my best day as a server, but I got through it and tomorrow will be better.  Well, actually, I'm off tomorrow....so, Wednesday will be better.  And, I haven't waitressed in over 3 years, so it's going to take me a minute to get my timing down in this new environment.  I definitely didn't have any timing today.  LOL

By the end of my shift, I could barely walk!  MY FEET WERE KILLING ME!! They still hurt and now that I'm done with my errands, I am going to soak my feet in Epsom salts.  I can't believe I used to be able to do this without any pain.  And, the funny thing is--I run!!  Of course, I haven't run since July, but still.....I'm going to have to whip myself into "server-shape".

As for my cat, Cuatro, he is still not well.  For a couple of days I thought he was getting his appetite back and I thought I was just being cat-scammed!!  But, over the weekend, his appetite left again.  It's just been so hard because I know that soon, unless a miracle happens, I'm going to have to make a decision.  I called my mom when I got home today and broke down when I was letting her know about Cuatro.  She said that she would come over and check on him or run him to the vet or whatever I needed when I was at work.   So, I just take it day to day and spend as much time with him as I can.  I hope that miracle happens, though.  I'm not ready to lose him.

Well, that's it for now.  I will get through everyone's posts throughout the week.  I'm getting ready to sit and watch my San Francisco Giants game while soaking my poor feet...and later on watch the season finale of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.  It's been a crazy season and can't wait for the Danielle v Caroline sit-down.  I've come to really like Caroline Manzo this season, especially since Dina left.  She's the only sane one left!! haha

Then I'm going to enjoy my day off tomorrow and get my hair cut and high-lighted.  I hope everyone is having a great Monday!!

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Hello, I'm back.........

I know, I haven't posted since Monday night.  There are two reasons I haven't gotten around to it :

1)  One of my kitties is very very sick.

My baby boy Cuatro (well, at around 14 years old he's hardly a baby, really) all of a sudden stopped eating.  Normally he is a voracious eater but somehow stays very thin.  So you know when he isn't that interested in food there is a serious problem.  He was diagnosed with FIV (which is basically feline HIV) back in 2007.  They think he's had it since before I got him.  He was a stray who wandered into my backyard back in 2001 with an infected ear from a fight.  I got him cleaned up and healthy and he's been mine ever since.  He is the sweetest cat but not very trusting.  Last year, for the very first time, he jumped up on the couch where I was sitting and laid next to me.....NOT on my lap, of course, but it was good enough for me.

The vets have been amazed that he has FIV but has always been incredibly healthy.  They told me whatever I'm doing, just keep on doing it.  I have been but always knew that this time would eventually come.  I have been trying different foods to get him to eat.  I finally found something.  He will, at this time, only eat wet food and his favorite is Turkey & Giblets from Science Diet, so that's what he gets, as much as he wants to eat.  Today has been a pretty good day so I am hopeful that he'll be okay.

2)  The other reason I haven't posted is that I finally got a job and my first day is tomorrow.  I've been running around getting needed clothing items (pants, etc..).  I have been out of work for almost a year and it has sucked!!  I hate not having anyplace to go each day and finally feel almost normal again!  Previously I worked in an office but it moved out of state last year.  As most people know, the unemployment rate in California is among the worst in the country.  The jobs most similar to my previous job are few and far between.  Unfortunately, those few jobs still here in California pay a lot less than I was making and the commute is farther so I knew I needed to figure something else out.

After a lot of soul searching I decided to go back to serving (yes, as in waitressing).  I do have a lot of experience and did very well in the past.  It was difficult to figure out where I wanted to work.  Most of the restaurants here in my town are big chains who hire the very young and those with the least experience....which equals immature kids and lousy service.  I'm too old for that shit!

Well, last week I saw an ad in the paper for an open house for a new restaurant coming to town.  It is family-owned but also a small chain.  I am familiar with the restaurant.  I thought about it and decided to check it out.  The open house was at the end of the week so I stopped in with my resume and filled out an application and had a short interview.  Luckily I'm old school and dressed nice.  I couldn't believe that most of the girls who came in for an application were in shorts/tanks/flip flops!!  UGH!!  Anyway, the guy interviewing me seemed pre-occupied and after 3 questions thanked me and said they'd be making a decision "sometime next week".  I left feeling a little dejected, thinking it apparently didn't go well.

Well, imagine my surprise when I got a phone call Sunday afternoon from the Asst Manager asking if I could come in for an interview that day.  I changed my clothes/got ready and was down there within 20 minutes. (I live about 5 minutes away by car).  I was interviewed by two managers and was hired on the spot!!  They said they were only hiring servers with experience.  The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  They were very interested in hiring someone who knew how to do breakfast and the final questions had to do with that.  Luckily I have that experience...plus, I have total availability.  So, tomorrow is orientation and we are supposed to open this upcoming Monday.  That's in 5 days.  I hope we have more than tomorrow's orientation to get ready?!  They haven't even given us a menu to study yet.  Luckily they have it online so I printed it and am studying it.

I haven't had time to really be nervous but as I sit here and write this post I am starting to feel anxious.  But it's a good anxious and honestly, I really can't wait to start!!  I finally feel like a useful member of society again.....besides, how many times can you clean your house every single day????? lol

Top 2 Tuesday (on Monday!)

I don't think I've played Top 2 Tuesday in a while so I thought it was time.  This weeks topic is:

Top 2 characters you would want to play on a TV show or movie

Lately I mostly just watch Reality TV so I had to REALLY think about this....if it were reality TV people it would be Rachel Zoe and Bethenny Frankel of course because Bravo channel has the BEST reality shows!!  But I will pick actual characters from a TV show or movie:

1.  Jill Munroe from Charlies Angels TV show

(via charliesangels.gr)
(charlie's angels gallery)
(charlie's angels gallery)
(c.a. gallery: Angels In Chains episode)

I love old TV shows and this is one of my favorites.  Farrah Fawcett was only on for 1 season but did come back for guest spots the next 3-4 seasons.  I liked this character from the first episode and think it would be fun to be Jill and live in a house on the beach and be a private detective who got to wear cool cloths and travel!!

2.  Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and The City

(via Amazon.com)
She's a complicated character.....but who doesn't love her wardrobe??  I think I would enjoy being Carrie Bradshaw.  Very very much!!

So, if you want to play and link up, head on over to Tay's blog

Getting To Know You

Happy Sunday to all!!  I am having a nice relaxing weekend, trying to enjoy the beautiful warm weather.  I hope everyone else is also having a great weekend!!!

Yesterday I went and saw Eat Pray Love.  Was it exactly like the book?  No of course not.  Does it even matter?  No of course not.  Could anyone else but Julia Roberts have played Liz Gilbert in this movie?  No of course not.  I loved loved loved the book and I loved loved loved the movie.  They are the same but different and that's okay.  They each brought something different to the story and it's the first time I've read a book and then saw the movie and wasn't disappointed.

Julia Roberts, as usual, was terrific.  I wasn't always a huge fan of hers but my ex-husband liked her so we saw all of her movies.  I have re-watched most of her movies and have come to appreciate her talent more and more and have become a big fan in the past few years.  But let's not forget about Richard Jenkins who, as everyone else also says, is great in the film as well as a scene-stealer....which is hard to do when you're in it with Julia!!  And, Javier Bardem is also terrific.  The good-bye scene with his son made me love the character even more!

Yes, even if you haven't read the book, go see the movie.

And, now...on to the Getting To Know You questions.  If you want to play and link up, head on over to Keely's blog.

1,  What kind of athlete has the hottest body?

Well, you know I love baseball, but I don't think they have the hottest bodies.  My pick is definitely.......football.  And, more specifically, wide receivers have the best bodies of all athletes in my humble opinion!!

2.  Are you a planner or a procrastinator?

I am both.  I definitely am a planner...always making lists, etc.  But there are certain things that I procrastinate on, which are usually things I really don't want to do or deal with.

3.  Diet or regular (soda)?

Neither.  I don't drink soda.

4.  What's your one "must have" for fall?

Since fall here in California isn't really that cold I'm going to have to say scarves.  Light and heavy ones.

5.  What's your favorite fast food restaurant?

In-N-Out of course!!!  Everything else pales by comparison!!

6.  What do you think is the sexiest profession for a guy?

Anything where the guy has to wear a suit and tie.  Or a musician.  haha

7.  Did you wear braces?

Yes I did.  But, unfortunately I didn't wear the retainer afterward and a couple of my teeth are still crooked.    So, please....wear the retainer!!!!  It makes all of the difference!!

8.  Would you rather have a guy who's super sexy or kind?

Super sexy guys usually don't have anything else to offer except their crappy attitudes.  But a kind guy is sexy.  Wish all men would learn that!!

Well, my San Francisco Giants are getting ready to play.  It's the last game of this series with the San Diego Padres.  Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday!!

It's Friday I'm In Love.... and other ramblings

I just can't believe another Friday is here!  It amazes me how time flies.  So, here it is--a list of things I am in love with this beautiful Friday:

The weather here in California

I just saw the forecast for the upcoming week and it's going to be in the low to mid 90's.  This makes me happy since it's been a lot cooler here lately and I was sad that fall was on its way.  I'm a happy girl again :)

San Francisco Giants

I am watching the game right now as I blog this.  They are playing the San Diego Padres.  The Padres are in 1st place and the Giants are 2.5 games behind.  Hopefully after this series the Giants will be in 1st place.  (fingers crossed)

My Kitties

Their pictures are on the sidebar of my blog.  I love them more than anything...even when they are mean or acting weird!!  The best part...they don't yell or talk back!!  lol

I read the book a while back and fell in love.  I have been eagerly anticipating the movie for months!  I will see it this weekend--probably tomorrow.

More specifically, the above dvd: Ali McGraw-Yoga Mind & Body.  I haven't done this routine in a loooong time.  I have done poses recently but not a whole 45 minute routine.  I tried to keep up, but I am definitely not as flexible as I used to be.  It's gonna take some time.  But it made my body feel so much better!!!!

Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred

Yes, I am back to this routine.  I took some time off (I don't know why, I just did).  But I'm back.  I started back at the beginning and am currently on Day 4.  It's still a butt-kicker and the push-ups are the bane of my existence, but I will master them if it's the very last thing I do.  Thanks Jillian for kicking my a**, I desperately need it!

Ben & Jerry's FroYo Cherry Garcia

I fell in love with the "regular" Cherry Garcia awhile back and found that they had it in FroYo form just recently so I tried it.  Tastes exactly the same but with less calories.  I also like the Chocolate Fudge Brownie FroYo.  It's not exactly the same as the regular version...it's a little "icier"...but it's still a good choice if you need a chocolate fix.

Well, that's all I can think of.....it's time to go and focus on the SFGiants game.  I wish everyone a great weekend!!

Oh yeah, I finished reading The Carrie Diaries last night.  Actually I stayed up most of the night to finish it.  It was actually pretty good, but with a few discrepancies.  You'd think Ms Bushnell would have double checked if she wants this to be a prequel to Sex and The City?!   But whatever, it was enjoyable.  It was much better than her other books.  But she still tries to cram too much drama and other crap into one book.  It gets a little tedious.  I do want to know, though, in which state do they allow minors to go to bars and restaurants and order alcoholic drinks??  Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a cocktail or few, but I am of legal age (over 21) so I can drink whatever I want!! lol

As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to go make myself an Apple Martini right now while I enjoy the game.....Happy Friday!!

Five Question Friday

It's Friday and time for another 5 Question Friday.  If you want to play & link up, go over to My Little Life.

Here are the questions:

1. Have you ever visited another country?
Yes, I've been to Mexico (via a cruise) and England
2. Where is the strangest place you have ever been?
I can't think of one right now.......
3. What is your favorite season?
If you haven't figured that out from previous posts.....SUMMER!!
4. What one song will always cheer you up?
There are so many because I love music, but the song that popped in my mind when I read this question is Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin........And I immediately SMILED!
5. What Disney character do you resemble most?
I don't know that I actually resemble any....but I have a cat that reminds me of Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, does that count?! haha
Well, I wish everyone a very Happy Friday and a great weekend!!

Follow Me, Chickadee Fridays!! (on Thurs nite, I know)

This is my second week doing this blog hop called Follow Me, Chickadee Friday's.  So, if you would also like to play, head on over to Mannland5 for all of the rules and to link up.  And, Happy Friday to everyone!!

I am right now trying to watch so many shows.  Thursday nights are busy TV...SYTYCD finale, Big Brother, Project Runway, Real Housewives of DC and Bethenny Getting Married?.  I think that's everything.  Thank goodness my San Francisco Giants played a day game today or else I would be in real trouble.

Yes, I have TIVO, but in all of the years I've had it, I've never once used it.  Yeah, I'm thinking that that sure was a waste of money!! :(  So, I didn't bother to renew it at the last renewal.  I find that if I don't watch something when it's on, rarely do I have time to sit later on and watch it.  Sometimes you have to learn things the hard way, right??!!

Book Review--"Love The One You're With"

First let me start out by saying Happy Hump Day, Wednesday. I can't believe how fast this week is flying by!  And, what is up with this weather?  Can it really get any windier here in Northern California??  I don't know if it's windy all over California.  For those of you fellow Californians, I live in Solano County.  Usually it's pretty hot since we are in the valley and close to Sacramento (about 35 miles west of).  All week I've been feeling that summer is over and fall is on its way, fast and furious!  That makes me sad.

Today I finished reading Love The One You're With by Emily Giffin.  According to the book jacket:

"This is a story for anyone who has ever wondered:  How can I truly love the one I'm with when I can't forget the one who got away?"

"Ellen and Andy's marriage doesn't just seem perfect.  There is no question how deep their devotion is, and how naturally they bring out the best in each other.  But one fateful afternoon, Ellen runs into Leo for the first time in eight years.  Leo, the one who brought out the worst in her.  Leo, the one who left her heartbroken with no explanation.  Leo, the one she could never quite forget.  When his reappearance ignites long-dormant emotions, Ellen begins to question whether the life she's living is the one she's meant to live.  Love The One You're With is a powerful story about one woman at the crossroads of true love and real life."

I loved this book.  I thought it was honestly written and I could relate to the main character, even if I didn't always agree with her choices.  I was drawn into the story and went along on the rollercoaster ride with Ellen as she figured things out.  It was difficult to put down and I couldn't wait to see how it ended.

The story does make you think about past loves and relationships, and is a good choice for anyone who has had a difficult time getting over someone.  It will also make you think about the current status of your life/relationship and whether or not you are where you want (or need) to be.

I also have Something Borrowed and Something Blue and can't wait to start reading them.  After finishing Love The One You're With I am definitely an Emily Giffin fan.  For right now, I have just started The Carrie Diaries.  I haven't been a fan of any of the previous books I've read by Candace Bushnell, which include:  Sex and The City, Four Blondes, Trading Up?, and Lipstick Jungle.  I know she has one other book called One Fifth Avenue.  I have debated on whether or not to bother.  Hopefully, the writing has improved in The Carrie Diaries as compared to Ms Bushnell's previous works.  If it's just the same old terrible writing I've had to endure, I will skip the 6th book (even though it came out before The Carrie Diaries).

It's Monday, with a weekend wrap-up

I'm always shocked at how fast the weekend just flies by!!  You'd think after all these years I'd get over it?!  Yet, surprisingly, I never do.

So, another Monday is upon us.  The summer is just cruising by and last night was the start of football season.  Huh??  Yes, the NFL pre-season is here as of last night.  No, I didn't watch the game.  Don't get me wrong, I love football season but I don't like pre-season--of ANY sport!  I have tried over the years to get into it, but it doesn't have the same lure of regular season.  Sorry all you die-hards...to me August is still summertime....and summertime is all about baseball.  So, until Labor Day, I will NOT be following a whole lot of football, unless there is nothing else to do or watch.  But watch out after Labor Day, because my Sundays (yes ALL day and night) and Monday nights will be all about football only.  And, if you don't know...the Oakland Raiders are my MOST favorite NFL team.  My second favorite team for many years has been Philadelphia Eagles, but since they unceremoniously dumped Donovan McNabb (my favorite QB) I am no longer a fan.  Same way I am not a huge fan of the SF 49ers anymore after they treated former coach Steve Mariucci and a few players (stupid York family) like crap.

I used to like the Pittsburgh Steelers too...but I now think Ben Roethlisberger is a jerk and I just can't watch that team or root for them anymore.  Sorry rest of the team that you have a loser of a QB who has no respect for girls or women.  Anyway, my new 2nd favorite team is the Cincinnati Bengals.  They have been climbing up the ranks of my faves for a while now and are now #2.  Can't wait to see Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens play together.  I remember T.O. when he was in San Francisco and he is an incredible wide receiver.  But, he was young and had too many problems and he has moved around a lot.  I hope with age comes wisdom for him and he is very successful in Cincinnati.  Can't wait!!

This weekend was busy for me but I didn't really go anywhere.  On Saturday I went to a few garage sales around town.  I picked up these:

Two bracelets at one of the last places I stopped at.  I asked the guy how much, and he paused for a minute and then said "Uh, you can have them both for $1.00".  I whipped out that $1.00 bill SO fast and gave it to him before he could change his mind.  I've already worn them and I love love them so much, especially the top one.

Later, I went grocery shopping.  Never a good idea on the weekend, but I needed a couple of things.  I stopped in at Target before I went home.  I was wandering around and came across a purse which made me stop in my tracks!!  That never happens unless it's a high end designer, like LV. LOL  The purse itself wasn't special, it was a medium sized satchel...but it's the color that caught my eye--a darkish (burnt) orange.  I'm not usually attracted to orange, although I am one of those people who can actually wear the color.  Well, I just know I HAVE to have that purse.  No, I didn't buy it.  But I will, at some point.  I tried to find it on Targets website, but it's not there. If I'm meant to have it, it'll still be there when I'm ready for it.  And, if not, oh well....there will always be another purse!!

So, when I got home, I decided to work out in the yard.  Well, not the yard itself since I have yard maintenance people (it's in my lease, YAY!) but the patio area.  Apparently, I was not in a generous mood and ended up throwing away just about everything.  I only worked on half the area.  I have a huge patio and couldn't get to all of it.  I swept and hosed and sprayed.  That's right I sprayed the patio with a little RAID.

In the few years I've lived here, the place has always been sprayed professionally (by the property mgmt--included in my lease, I guess) so I never had any problems with ants, spiders, or bugs of any kind--well, except mosquitoes, but can't have everything?!  I guess they no longer have any of the properties sprayed (I haven't seen anyone around in a long time) because all of a sudden I have a problem with spiders.  Luckily I haven't had much of a problem inside of the house (thank goodness), but on the outside, it's terrible.  Well, for me anyway!!  I've never lived in a place that hasn't been professionally sprayed (that sounds a little spoiled) and it's freaking me out.  I think that's why I've decided to empty my patio out.  Except for my chairs and 2 large pots w/plants in them.  Everything else, including a small bbq, went in the trash.  I sprayed around the patio I cleaned and a couple of large spiders came out from somewhere (EEEEK!!!) and I think I sprayed half a can on them until not only the spray killed them, but they drowned in it!

Yesterday was spent cleaning and cooking.  And watching my San Francisco Giants lose, yet again, to the Atlanta Braves.  I knew this series would be a test to see if they (Giants) are ready for the postseason as everyone in the Bay Area thinks/hopes they will end up.  It was a colossal failure as far as I'm concerned.  Our starting rotation is great but the offense is hit or miss, and, quite frankly, that is not good enough for post season.  It's terrible when a starting pitcher only gives up 3 or less runs and can't get any run support from the offense.  This has been the bane of this team for a couple of years.  The SFGiants have one of the best starting rotations in baseball, but the offense has rarely been consistent.  It's completely maddening.

This morning I got up and exercised.  I can't believe I did but thought I'd better just get it out of the way or I would find any old excuse to not do it later on.  It's my second day of doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.  Yes, I am attempting it again.  This time I hope to complete all 30 days!!  It's tough but I actually like it.  Also, I have had more energy all day today.

Now, it's time to finish cleaning the rest of my patio.  I was going to do it yesterday, but didn't get a chance, so today's the day.  I have my gloves and am ready to battle any spiders I come into contact with (not really, but it sounds good, huh?! haha).

Later on I'll make dinner and get ready for my Monday night TV lineup:  SFGiants game at 7:00, followed by Real Housewives of New Jersey.  Three of the ladies are going to Italy tonight.  I can't wait!!  And, no, I will NOT be watching Bachelor Pad.

Hope you are having a wonderful Monday!!
