It's Friday, I'm in Love.....

Lately, to be honest, I've been pretty uninspired to blog about anything other than the concert I attended last Sunday and linking up to other blogs to answer questions. I'm hoping I can get over this soon!!  Until then, I will continue at least the lists and questions!! lol

It's Friday, I'm in Love with..............

My San Francisco Giants!!  They are beating the dreadful LA Dodgers right now.  That ALWAYS makes me so very happy! :)

My kitties!!  Of course, that isn't a surprise to anyone, now is it??

Mani-Pedi's.  Enough said, right!! lol

Adam Lambert.  I'm still thinking about the concert last Sunday.  He was incredibly awesome and I cannot wait to see him again

Summer weather.  The weather has been fantastic this week and I couldn't be happier!

The Carrie Diaries.  It was finally my turn at the library! I've been "in line" since the beginning of June & just picked it up yesterday.  I will start it this weekend!

Project Runway.  So happy this show is back.  My cousin got me hooked a couple of years ago.

Fashion.  I'm addicted again, like I was in college before I got married.  It's like my long lost friend.  Devouring the pages of Vogue/Harper's Bazaar/Elle and can't wait to redo my wardrobe.

In that same vain:  The Rachel Zoe Project is back next week and I am beyond excited!!  She's a lot of the reason I have my fashion mojo back and have a brand new love of jewelry (especially vintage).

Well, those are the things I'm in love with this beautiful Friday.  What are you in love with???

Five Question Friday

It's Friday and time for 5 Question Friday.  If you want to play along and link up, head on over to My Little Life.

1.  Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid?  If so, do you still have it?

No favorite blanket,  but my favorite "toys" were my Barbies and all of their clothes.  Unfortunately, I no longer have any of it.  My step-dad threw everything away when I was in college.

2.  Do you dream in color?

Honestly, I don't ever remember my dreams, although I'm sure I have them.  So, I don't know.

3.  How tall are you?   Do you wish you were shorter or taller?

I'm 5'2".  I definitely do NOT wish to be shorter.  The only time I wish I were taller is whenever I cannot reach something.  Otherwise, I'm fine with my size.

4.  If you can have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as a guide on your GPS, who would it be?

I hate GPS and do not have it in my car.  I know how to read a map and whenever I need to go somewhere new, I spend a little time studying the map to "get my bearings".  I have never been lost.  My parents totally rely on their GPS.....and never really get to know the area....relying solely on that machine, and it's not always 100% accurate.  So, my answer is no "voices" in my car!!

5.  Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?

I always take it to the corral.  Common courtesy.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Adam Lambert at the Warfield

I was invited to go to the Adam Lambert concert this past Sunday at the Warfield in San Francisco.  I was told it was an added date to his tour.

Like millions of others, I saw him on American Idol and I always knew he was going to do well whether he won or not.  Well, we all know he didn't win.....neither did Chris Daughtry (my most favorite former Idol) a couple of seasons before, and look how well he's done!!

I live closer to Sacramento than San Francisco, so we drove to Walnut Creek to the BART station and took BART in to "the City".  The concert started at 8:00pm and we got there at 5:45 (we had to pick up the tix at the window at 6).  The line was sooooo long!!  In the 1 1/4 hours I had to stand in line before the doors opened, we saw just about every different kind of person you could see!!

I love San Francisco so much!!  It's just a whole different vibe compared to the suburbs--which, by the way, has no vibe.  Every time I go I feel so comfortable there...more alive!  I always say that the suburbs are a place where souls go to die.  Sad, huh?!  Well, that's my opinion anyway.  Most people who live here in the suburbs actually love it!  Me, not so much.....  So, why do I live here?  Because my family and friends live here.  Although, quite honestly, that's becoming a less important reason to stay.

But, I digress.  We finally get into the venue and go right for the restrooms....unfortunately, they smell, but at this point I don't care.  There are individual stalls w/doors, TP, sink, soap, & paper towels--so I will survive!

I'm a little OCD....so I was totally horrified to see several women take their alcoholic drinks (there was a bar in the entrance of the Warfield) into the stalls with them.  Beyond Gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We used the facilities first and then got our drinks.  I shudder even thinking about it!!! Does no one understand hygiene!!??

So, we got our drinks (Lambert-ini's, lol) and our t-shirts (well, I got a tank top since I don't wear t-shirts) and went to find a place to stand.  Yes, I said stand.  After standing for 1 1/4 hours to get in, and again to use the restroom, I have to stand for the entire concert.  Our tickets were "General Admission".  It really wasn't that bad but my feet did hurt when it was over and it took a few minutes of walking to get the circulation moving again.  I couldn't believe the age range of people....anywhere from teenagers to 70's.....it was amazing!

Allison Iraheta opened the show.  For those of you who watch American Idol, she was the young rocker chick with the red hair during Adam's season.  I had forgotten how good her voice is--very powerful!!  She was on for about 20 minutes and was very good!

Orianthi came on after her.  I had heard of her, but really didn't know anything about her.  Excellent guitarist.  Apparently she was supposed to be the guitarist for Michael Jackson's last tour before he died.  I really enjoyed her music.

Then came Adam.  His show is really what a concert is supposed to be, in my opinion!  I'm tired of seeing the lip-synching dance numbers. He is a wonderful showman and didn't get caught up in the intricacies of ridiculous dance routines which take away from the music.  He did have 4 dancers (2 male/2 female) but they played a minimal role....the show was about Adam and his music.  And, boy, was his voice incredible and powerful!!  It reminded me of concerts I attended back in the day!!  It made me so happy.  I would go to his show again in a hot second!!  There are people who may find his show too provocative, so if that's the case, you may have to pass.  But otherwise, I would highly recommend his show.

1.  Thong or granny panties?
Thong

2.  If you see a guy with his fly down, do you tell him?
If I'm with the guy, yes.  If it's a stranger, probably not.

3.  Spanx or no Spanx?
Definitely NO Spanx.

4.  Do you sleep in your sheets?
Yes

5.  What is your favorite Disney character?
Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch) and Snow White

6.  Dream vacation spot?
My dream vacation was England, and I've been there.  I love to travel, so anywhere and everywhere!!  But a nice tropical island sounds good right about now!! lol

7.  What is your dream job?
Hmmm......that's a good question.  Something where I would be paid lots of money and get to travel the world.

8.  Who is your hero and why?
My mom.  She raised 3 kids as a single parent and did an excellent job (if I do say so myself!!).  Also, she enjoys life and thinks age is just a number!!  Go mom!!!

Five Question Friday

It's Friday and time for....

If you want to play and link up, head on over to My Little Life's blog.  So, here we go:

1.  What were your school colors?
They were green and gold.

2.  What's the best compliment you ever received?
Well, professionally, I get a lot of complements that my work ethic is outstanding.  I'm always surprised because, really, I think I'm just doing my job....so if that is outstanding, geez...what the heck is everyone else doing??!!  But, I'll take it!!  On the personal side, well....I've never been good at taking a complement and it makes me (to this day) embarrassed and unsure how to act......

3.  Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?
I have always bought Quilted Northern TP (the regular one).  It was in protest because my parents always bought the cheap stuff--and I always hated it!!  Recently, my parents tried Ultra Northern ultra plush and my mom brought a roll over for me to try.  I told her no...I thought it was too expensive (I have my limits!).  Well, don't argue with mom.  I ended up trying it and am now hooked.  At Costco they have coupons in their monthly books every couple of months and I stock up at that time.  Actually, I use less, so I am really saving money......

4.  Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you?  Or, have you had one for someone else?
People have given up trying to give me a surprise party because somehow I always find out!! Honestly, though, it's definitely NOT because I was trying to find out.  I am just always in the wrong place at the wrong time and find out :(.

But I love love love throwing surprise parties and have done so many times!!

5.  What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?
I will have to go with my car--a Honda Accord. I live in a suburb, so.............

I know most people say their cell phone.....but honestly, I can live without it!!  I often leave it at home because I forget to put it in my purse....and I didn't take it with me when I spent a couple of weeks in England.  The only time I cared that I had it was when I got a flat tire on the freeway and had to call AAA.  Otherwise, I have other things to do than play with my phone......but, than again, I don't have an Iphone!!  Check back with me when I finally get one! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Top 2 Tuesday

It's Tuesday (okay, it's still really Monday, but....) and time for Top 2 Tuesday.  If you want to link up and play, go to The Undomestic Momma's blog.  This week the Top 2 is:

Top 2 Things you want to purchase
1.  Iphone
Yes, I am one of the few people who doesn't have an Iphone.  I have a Nokia which I got almost 2 years ago and actually am happy with, but everyone I know has an Iphone and, frankly, I feel a little left out!! lol  So, I may be getting one in the near future!

2.  New clothes
I'd like a few more things for the remainder of the summer (which will probably last until end of Sept/ beginning of Oct here) and new, updated things for fall/winter.

Getting To Know You

It's Sunday, and time for another GTKY. If you want to play and link up, go to Mannland5's blog.  So, here goes:

1.  If you had to choose a country to live in besides the USA (or the country you live in), which would it be?
It would have to be England.  I've loved England my whole life and was finally able to go there a couple of years ago and totally fell in love!!

2.  Which would be worse, wearing flip flops in the snow or wearing gloves in the summer?
Both sound terrible, but since I hate being cold I would have to say flip flops in the snow.

3.  Fried or baked, and why?
I love both but really, is there anything better tasting then fried chicken??  lol  But I bake since it's healthier.

4.  If you were an entertainment reporter, which celeb would you love to interview and why?
Can't think of one.  But I would interview any one of the guys on the San Francisco Giants!!

5.  What was your favorite book as a preteen/teenager?
I read a lot.  Can't say I had a favorite, but I loved reading anything about European history and royalty.

6.  List your Top 3 guilty pleasure television shows.
Big Brother, Real Housewives (or anything on Bravo), The Hills/The City

7.  What bumper sticker slogan best describes you/your attitude/your life?
I don't like bumper stickers...you should be paying attention to the road and not someone's bumper!!  Besides, they're an eyesore!  I do love the saying "Every day is a gift", though, and it's what I believe.

8.  If you were to join a circus, what performer would you be?
I don't like the circus either, but if I had to choose, it would, of course be the ring master.

It's Friday I'm In Love....

Yes, another post!!  3 in one day--I think that's a record for me!!  So anyway, the things I'm in love with this beautiful Friday are:

1.  The heat.
Today it was about 103*F.   I love love love summertime and heat.  The hotter the better, but without the humidity!!

2.  The San Francisco Giants.
Yesterday was their first game after the All-Star game to start the second half of the baseball season.  The offense still needs to wake up, but the pitching was stellar and they beat the NY Mets 2-0.  Tonight's game is getting ready to start in a few minutes.

3.  My hair
Yes, I forgot to do "It's Friday I'm In Love" last week after I got my hair cut and colored after what seemed like an eternity between appt's!!  Actually I had it trimmed and colored and it had been a few months.

4.  My cats
They ALWAYS have to be on the list.....

5.  Fresh brewed iced tea
Besides plain ole water.....this is my go-to drink in the summertime.......with tons of ice and no flavorings or sugar!!

6.  Giada At Home and The Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics.  Both shows on the Food Network
I have been watching both of these shows for awhile and found some great recipes to make for family and friends.  Thanks ladies!!

7.  The blogs I follow.
I try to get through everyone's posts....sometimes it takes me awhile!  I learn a lot and I thank each and every one of you!!  You all rock!!!!!!!!!!!

Wishing everyone a Happy Friday and have a great weekend!!!

Favorite Fridays

I saw this over at Just Me and My Life blog and just had to play along!!  So, if you would like to play and link up, go over to A Girl In Pearls & A Boy With Toys blog.

This weeks Friday Favorite is:

Cocktails!

Having been a bartender in the past, I have several favorites but in the summertime I love something light, so I'm going with a  Malibu Bay Breeze....

1 shot of Malibu Rum
Pineapple juice
Splash of Cranberry juice
in a tall glass with ice
I love this drink because of the low alcohol content....and pineapple is my fave juice.  It's a drink I always recommended to women who came in and never knew what to order but didn't want anything strong (especially when on a date!!).  Enjoy!!

Five Question Friday

Yay!!  It's Five Question Friday.  If you want to play along and link up, go over to My Little Life's blog.  So, here we go.......

1.  Do you collect anything?
Yes, koala bears (since I was young), bobbleheads from the San Francisco Giants, and Hallmark Keepsake ornaments.

2.  Name 3 celebrities that you find good looking.
Shemar Moore (Agt Morgan on Criminal Minds--also, the original Malcolm on Y&R)
Blair Underwood (Dr Robert Leeds--Miranda's boyfriend on SATC)
Brad Pitt
The Twilight guys (sorry.....couldn't resist!!)

3.  Do you have any scars?  If so, what's the story behind it (them)?
I have one on my upper lip.  When I was first married, we got a kitten and I loved playing with him.  I kept sticking my face in his face and he didn't like it.  My husband (now ex) kept telling me to stop, but I didn't.  So,  the kitten bit into my lip and, in shock, I pulled back.....I let the cat go and there was blood.  I had to go to work the next day with a huge swollen upper lip :(  There's a small scar you can only see if I'm not wearing any lipstick.  Moral to the story.......don't piss cats off, because they'll always have the last word!! lol

4.  What is a food that you like to eat, but others might think it's gross or weird?
There are so many because I'll try just about anything once:  Herring, liver and onions, escargot, brussel sprouts, and if I happen to go to KFC I have to get the mashed potatoes w/gravy and the cole slaw and I mix them all up

5.  Have you ever seen a tornado in real life?
No.

The Hill, The City finales and Walking

Happy Hump Day!  Can't believe the week is already half over, yet here we are.

So, what did everyone think of The Hills finale?  I thought it was good.  I also liked that in the aftershow, they included a montage of Speidi (actually a couple of montages), since they really were an important part of the shows success.  Even though they went off the deep end after the wedding and really needed to go, I am still sad that they weren't there for the finale.  I really hope they can both get their lives together.

It was great to see Lauren Conrad at the aftershow, but I wish they would have had time to speak to everyone a little more...it all seemed a little rushed.  Also, I really can't stand the two hosts--whatever their names are.  They were just way TOO much for me.

And, what about The City finale?? I love seeing Kelly Cutrone on both this show on MTV and her show Kell On Earth on the Bravo channel.  Hopefully Whitney sticks with Kelly and doesn't go with that idiot PR woman in pink!!  And, although Olivia is stylish and I enjoy seeing what she wears, I do not enjoy seeing her on this show....how many chances does one person get?  But then again, this is a scripted reality show so....

Yesterday I was planning to walk, but a friend stopped by and a quick visit ended up being about 4+ hours and then it was too late.  So, even though it was so hot outside today, at 94*F, I made sure I got my walk in.  I ended up doing 3.1 miles.  My hips are still tight, but they didn't hurt like they did on Monday.  I came right home and did a half hour of stretching and feel a lot better!!

Right now I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance, but Top Chef starts in a couple of minutes, so I'm going to have to switch channels.  But I really want to see Dominic and Jose dance their routine! Dominic has become one of my faves of all of the previous seasons dancers....and I feel bad about Jose's first routine tonight.  To see his face when the judges spoke, it just broke my heart and I almost started to cry.....

Finally back to Exercising

Happy Monday everyone!!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  The plans I had for this weekend were canceled at the last minute, so I had a lot of unexpected free time.  So, I ended up garage sale shopping all day instead of just a couple hours in the early a.m.  Mostly just baby and kid stuff so I didn't have a lot of success.  The only thing I found was at one of the last places I stopped, go figure!!  It was a book called Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes.  It was only .25 cents!! haha

Lately, as I've posted before, I have lacked energy, been unmotivated, and just felt blah.  It has been 8 days since I've done any type of exercise and for the past few days I've been trying to figure out a way to get motivated to get back to it.

I've also noticed that my hips have been very tight lately and I was hesitant to run because I know that could be disastrous and lead to a bad injury.  So, I decided to go back to the beginning and just walk.  This afternoon I went to the park and planned to walk 3.1 miles--my normal route when I run.

Boy am I paying for not exercising at all the past week (and very little the past month)!!  I wanted to quit by mile 2 but made myself finish.  By the end of my walk I had slowed down my pace a lot because my hips were pretty tight and I was basically walking funny to compensate for the tightness...which, I think, can cause injuries.  Geesh!

This walk of 3.1 miles took me 58 minutes to complete.  I am embarrassed and saddened by this time.  But, it's my own fault, so all I can do is keep working at it in order to improve my time.

I came home immediately after my walk and spent 15 minutes just stretching out my hips and a few minutes on my thighs and calves.  I know it's not a lot of time, but I feel so much better!!  Now I realize more than ever that I need to start doing yoga &/or pilates again.

I blogged earlier about eating so much the past week or so.  However, today I may be back to normal because I haven't really been that hungry all day.  I didn't even realize it until I got home from my walk.  I had a good breakfast:  1 cup each of Shredded Wheat, blueberries and 1% milk.  I had a peanut butter (1 Tbsp) & jelly (1 Tbsp--it was apricot jam) "sandwich"--but instead of bread I used 2 Wasa crackers and with it had a Venti sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce Latte.  After my run I had 1 glass of chocolate milk (10 oz 1% milk with 2 Tbsp of Nestle's Quik).  I am not that hungry so for dinner I am just going to have some whole grain pasta w/ fresh grated Parmesan cheese and some Summer Squash Medley (sauteed zucchini, pattypan & crookneck squash w/salt/pepper/lemon juice).  Since I just thawed out some ground turkey, I will also make turkey burgers (no bread or condiments--just the burger).

Has anyone else started watching Big Brother?  Do you have a favorite yet?  I don't, which is unusual.  Who do you think the Saboteur is?  I haven't got a clue.

Well, I am off to finish the turkey burgers.  The Bachelorette is on right now, but I haven't been into it and not really caring who she picks.  This is the first and last time I will ever watch the Bachelor or Bachelorette.   I would rather watch repeats of Real Housewives of New Jersey!

I can't wait for tonight's RHONJ!!  Danielle is seriously disturbed and really needs professional help.  I am getting bored with her storyline (if you can even call it that) and her ex-con/thug bodyguards and poor friends.  I'm sorry, I watch the Real Housewives franchise because they are supposed to be wealthy and we get to "peek" into their lifestyle.  If I wanted to see a middle class life style, I would just need to get in my car and drive around town, not waste time watching Danielle Staub and her friends dancing around a stripper pole with their g-strings hanging out.  Just sayin'.....

The Human Garbage Disposal

Yes, I am referring to myself! I don't know what's going on but I've been hungry all week long.....almost non-stop.  At first I thought maybe it was due to being thirsty, which can cause "hunger pangs", but I've been a good girl and have finally gotten myself back on track to at least 8 cups of water a day.  I'm sure it'll take me awhile to become fully hydrated again, but I'm on my way.

So, what is causing this non-stop eating fest I have going?  I don't know.  For the most part I've been eating healthy foods (thank goodness) but just a lot. I was craving something sweet the other day, but luckily I had dumped all of that out a while back.  Or so I thought!! Unfortunately I still had a box of devils food chocolate cake mix and a container of frosting in my cupboard and I couldn't help myself.  I also had cream cheese and powdered sugar which I took and made a filling (with a little butter, vanilla, etc...).

But, instead of making a cake, I decided I would make cupcakes (thanks Cupcake Wars).  So, I made said cupcakes, let them cool, then filled them with the cream cheese filling, and then frosted them.  They are/have been soooo good.  I didn't eat all of them, but I did eat quite a few.

Last night I was craving In-N-Out burgers and, after watching the San Francisco Giants game, drove across town to get a cheeseburger (with grilled onions) and fries.  I can't believe I got french fries because I never order them anymore, but they just sounded good, so......  I do have to say that after I finished the burger and fries I felt full....but in a satisfied way and didn't eat the rest of the night.  However, today I am grazing again and am trying to stay busy in hopes of not shoveling food down my throat.

So........is anyone else watching The Hills marathon this weekend on MTV? I like watching the episodes one right after another.  Somehow you get a different perspective on things.  There's no time to "stew" over anything.  As a result, my views on a couple of people have changed.

I'm looking forward to the finale on Tuesday and the after-show.  Lauren Conrad is going to be there, which will be a treat for LC lovers.  I like her, and I do miss her on the show, but I don't get why everyone just loves her so much.  She seemed so miserable a lot of the time, was a bit negative, and, let's face it, the girl knows how to hold a grudge!!

I have enjoyed seeing Kristin on the show.  I would have liked it if both she and LC were on The Hills together.  Now that would have been ratings gold, I think!!  Much more interesting than Audrina whining, yet again, about Justin.  Or, anything about Stephanie and Holly (what a waste of airtime).  And, my least favorite person on the show...Lo Bosworth, or as I like to call her: The Shit-Disturber.  She's rude and a troublemaker.  And when she, Lauren, and Audrina lived together, I thought it was Lo who tried to edge Audrina out of the picture.  Jealousy, perhaps??  Or, just a faux storyline to get us to watch?  But that storyline and her attitude made me dislike her so much.  Who am I kidding, I didn't like her on Laguna Beach, either!!  I don't understand why she is still on the show?  Her BFF isn't on anymore....so, shouldn't she go away already???

Quite frankly, I haven't missed the Speidi show at all this final season.  I enjoyed them when they first got together, but after she got her first surgery a couple of years ago, they just started to get too weird and the storyline became totally boring.  So, adios Mr and Mrs Pratt.  Hopefully they, and their craziness, will not be back on the finale or the after-show.  Fingers crossed!!

Also, tonight I am looking forward to one of my favorite shows: The Next Food Network Star.  It wasn't on last weekend because of the holiday and I was bummed, so I am looking forward to the 90 minute episode tonight.

Now, I need to get back to housework, then get dinner started:  Baked Chicken, whole-wheat pasta w/ fresh grated Parmesan cheese and Shredded Brussel Sprouts sauteed in a little olive oil and seasoned w/salt and pepper (well, pepper, anyway) and fresh lime juice.

Wishing everyone a happy Sunday!!

TGIF. The Hills/The City marathon weekend. Shopping.

TGIF......and how happy am I that there is a The City and The Hills marathon this weekend on MTV before the season finale (The City) and the series finale (The Hills) this coming Tuesday July 13th.

I didn't feel like searching for a picture for The City so we'll just have to make do with the picture I had of The Hills.

Originally I started watching The City around episode 14 or 15 of season 1 (when Whitney meets Freddie Fackelmayer).  So, it was nice to see it prior to that--although, I still didn't see the 1st two episodes.  Oh, well, next marathon!! lol

This week I found some bargains to add to my wardrobe.  Now that the hot weather is here, I realized that I really don't have too many summertime clothes so I have been on the lookout:

This was my first find.  It was on clearance at Ross Stores.  I think it was about $8. It fit perfectly and for that price I couldn't resist!!

These Liz Claiborne's were also found at Ross.  I have always been in love with over-sized sunglasses (a la Jackie O or Audrey Hepburn) but my face is very very small, and most look too big on my face (I look like a small child wearing her mom's glasses!).  So, I was happily surprised that these still fit my face but were over-sized!! And for $6...again, I couldn't resist!!

Another pair of over-sized sunnies (this time in black).  This pair of Nine West glasses are a little bigger on my face, but not too much.  These were a little more at $9 (again, from Ross) but still reasonable for glasses.

I do own a pair of Revo's (polarized #2508) purchased back in 2005 and a pair of Coach (Valerie S314) gifted to me by a friend.  My ex-husband bought me a pair of Calvin Klein CK4015 Havana's  several years ago when we were married because I kept losing the cheap ones I always bought.  He thought if he bought a more expensive pair (I have no idea how much they were) I wouldn't lose them.  I guess he was right, because I've never lost any of my more expensive sunglasses (although I have misplaced them a few times!!)

Anyway, my last find was today.  I have been looking for a pair of gold flat sandals for what seems like forever, but I couldn't find a pair in my size (I wear a size 6).  So, I went to all of the local stores without success.

We recently had a Burlington Coat Factory open up in our town.   I have only been in one of their stores in another town and, quite frankly, was shocked and appalled at the terrible shoe selection (can anyone say stripper shoes?!) and cheap looking clothes.  I vowed I would never set foot in another one of their stores again.  So, yes, today I decided to check out the store here in my town (my mom always says never say never).  I was completely surprised by the shoe selection (regular shoes....nothing stripper-ish) and better clothing selection.  Anyway, I found my gold sandals.  Although they didn't (as usual) have my size, I went ahead and tried on the 6 1/2....and they fit.  I was shocked and, of course, I was meant to have them!!  They were only $9.99!!

So, those were my purchases this week.  I have a busy, fun-filled weekend planned so I'd better get to bed.  I hope you all have a great weekend too!!

I received an award

I was pleasantly surprised today to learn that I was nominated for an award by Tarryn and Allison over at 2Bloggeristas

It's called The Versatile Blogger award.  I'm still new to the blog world and trying to figure my way, so I would like to thank them for this award!  You girls are awesome!!

With any award comes rules, so here are the rules for this blog award:

Frustration

That is how I am feeling tonight!  This year I have been trying to improve my health by eating better and exercising regularly.  Over the years, I am embarrassed to say, I have allowed both to fall by the wayside. The fact that my weight has fluctuated so much is a testament to that fact.

I thought I was ready to make the change and stick with it.  For the past few months I have been making changes to my eating habits.  I have cut out a lot of sugar (not all---let's not get crazy now!!), added a lot of fruit to my diet (well for me it's a lot: 3 servings a day of fruit now instead of 0 or 1 serving), ate smaller portions (I only use my small plates), made healthier choices when I ate out, etc.....I even cut down on my Starbucks!!  I now only get one 2-3 times a week instead of 7.

I also started exercising regularly for awhile: running 3 times a week, I did Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (well, I completed 10 days in a row of the 30 days), and I ran in my first 5K in May of this year.  Since the 5K race, however, I have been lax on my running and stopped doing The Shred.

As I've said before I have been having trouble sleeping the past few months, which, I know, doesn't help.  It seems that no matter how tired I am, once I take out my contact lenses I get a second wind, if you will, and am wide awake until 2:00am or later.  Unfortunately for me, every couple of years insomnia arrives and wreaks havoc on my life for a few months before finally departing.

Well, my eating has been okay...a week or two ago I actually started writing down what I ate and calculated the calories.  However, over this holiday weekend, any good eating habits I have learned jumped out of the window!  Actually, the last 2 days I have eaten a lot of crap (sugar....which is my downfall) but worse, I have been constantly eating.

On top of all of that, I've mentioned before that I haven't been drinking enough water and always feel dehydrated.  I don't know why this is so hard for me since I have always been the girl with the big water bottle with her at all times!  Up until the last year or so I always drank plenty of water.  Why the change??  I have no idea.
So, it scared me when I read the following in the latest Shape magazine (I've been a subscriber for many years) today.  It said:  18    "extra times your heart beats per minute when you exercise while dehydrated".  It went on to say:  "That kind of jump increases the strain on your ticker, which makes your workout feel harder.  To get enough fluids, sip 16 ounces of water before exercise, and drink another 10 ounces for every 15 minutes that you're moving."  Yikes!!  By my NOT drinking enough fluids and allowing myself to get dehydrated, I am doing more harm when I exercise.

I have tried to talk to family and friends but, like I always say, they are not supportive in my making any changes in my life.  They give me what I call lip service, basically yessing me.  But when it comes right down to it, they always encourage me to continue down the wrong path (bad food, large quantities and no exercise).  And, honestly, it has to stop.  I realize I must depend on, and motivate, myself.

So, I sat down tonight and wrote out a menu and exercise plan for the remainder of the week, instead of just for tomorrow.  What's going to be different this time??  I have no idea.  All I can say is that I have to take things one day at a time.  Well, more likely, one moment at a time for now.

Right now, most importantly, I have to get enough sleep and drink enough water.  If I am not doing those two things, I will continue to falter, especially with exercise.  As for eating, I know what to do and getting back on track won't be as difficult.  I will start first thing tomorrow morning.

I have to start tracking it all to hold myself accountable.  It's going to be hard (well, more time consuming anyway) but sticking with it and finally getting back into shape will be my reward.  Wish me luck!! Where's Jillian Michael's when you need her to give a little motivation?! lol

5 Question Friday

Happy Friday everyone!!

Today we'll play a new game I found on Katie's Jersey Blonde blog.  If you want to play and link up, head over to Andrea's My Little Life....

1.  What is one thing you miss the most about childhood?
Hanging out at the pool every day during summer, no responsibilities, Christmas morning after Santa's visit.  Oops, I just realized the question was "one thing"......well, I have three. And they are equally missed.
2.  Are you still friends with your friends from high school?
Some.  Many are on my Facebook page, but don't get to see each other much due to where we all live.  But one of my good friends from high school lives in the same town as I do, so we still get together!!

3.  Is there a catch phrase, cliche, or word that just drives you bonkers every time you hear it?
Dude, My bad, Cool Beans (probably the worst one!!), and when people use the word "like" in all of their sentences....there are too many more to list!!!
4.  What is one thing that you think symbolizes America...besides "Old Glory"?
The Statue of Liberty and The Liberty Bell.  They are both symbols of America and freedom.

5.  What are your 4th of July weekend plans?
On Saturday I will be garage sale and thrift store shopping during the day and then cooking/baking that night.  On Sunday, I'll be BBQ'ing with the family and watching the fireworks that night.  A simple and fun weekend!  Oh, and I WILL see Twilight Saga: Eclipse at some point this weekend!

I wish everyone a fun and safe holiday weekend!!!

Good-bye Bengie Molina: From the SFGiants to the Texas Rangers

(from left: Andres Torres, Bengie Molina, Edgar Renteria)

I read the news last night online and was stunned.  The veteran catcher for my beloved San Francisco Giants, Bengie Molina, has been traded to the Texas Rangers.  I, like Bengie, didn't see it coming yet.....although some of my fellow SFGiants fans have been clamoring for his release from the team all season since he was re-signed in the off-season.

No, he is not the quickest player on the team....his nickname (again from SFGiants "fans") is Molasses.  But he is still an excellent catcher and he is an excellent mentor for his younger, less experienced, teammates.  There are worse players on this team who make ridiculous mistakes and are forgiven by both "fans" and coaches.  I am appalled by fellow, supposed, SFGiants fans who have continually ridiculed him and constantly put him down because of his lack of speed.

Since last season, everyone has been clamoring for Buster Posey to come up from the minors to replace Bengie as the starting catcher.  Buster is the up-and-coming starting catcher for this team.  He is not a natural catcher and is still learning the position.  I think in time he will do a great job, but I personally don't think he's ready to be the everyday starting catcher.  I could be wrong...we will soon find out.  I was shocked how most fans wanted to get rid of Bengie and bring Buster up last year!!  "Free Buster Posey" was the mantra from these people!!  All I could think was, what's the rush......give this kid a chance to learn the position....he's only 23 years old for God sakes!!

Buster was brought up this season and has been playing first base.....very well actually!!  I am never one to jump on a bandwagon, unlike most other fans.  I was hoping that the powers-that-be would let him slowly get behind the plate and do a gradual transition.  However, they and many of the "fans", have been drooling over Posey and think he is our savior (him and Madison Baumgarner, up-and-coming starting pitcher).

People are so obsessed with youth and think anyone over the age of 30 is old and useless.  It totally offends me because they may have youth (be physically ready) but are they mentally and emotionally ready??  People need to realize that there is value in every single person, regardless of age, and stop trying to toss aside anyone over whatever the current expiration age is at the moment.....

Now, don't get me wrong.  I like Buster Posey and think he's going to do a great job as the starting catcher.  But, I just don't get the rush.  This team has so many other problems, Bengie wasn't close to being the biggest (no pun intended).  Our offense, on paper, is great, but in reality....not so much.  They are inconsistent.  But I think that is a managerial blunder and not as much the players fault.  So, until they rectify the offense, I don't see the rush to push Bengie out the back door.  Add to that the seeming implosion of our starting rotation.....right now, I think my 9 year old goddaughter could hit a homerun off of any of them.   I am a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan and always will be.  The decisions made by the exec's sometimes astound me.  I want my team to succeed, I just wonder if the exec's really want the same?!  Or, is it just about the money????

So, I say good-bye to Bengie Molina.  Unlike most other SFGiants fans, I think you were a wonderful member of this team and I will definitely miss you.  I wish you nothing but the best as a member of the Texas Rangers (who, by the way, are in 1st place in their division unlike the SFGiants who are currently in 4th place in their division).  And, I thank you for always giving everything you have each and every game you played in for the San Francisco Giants.
