Sex and The City 2 and the week in wrap-up

Wow, I didn't realize I haven't blogged all week--it went by too fast! I only ran once and worked out once this week. Like I've said many times before, bad weather always makes me lazy and this week ended up being a perfect example. I am so over the rainy, cloudy, windy, cold weather. I wish spring or summer would just get here already!!

I received some terrible news this week. One of my cousins has cancer. My dad called my mom and told her. My mom was telling me and I kind of blanked out from the shock and didn't hear everything she said. I remember the words liver, prostate, transplant, and blood transfusions. They think he may have got the cancer from paint fumes, I believe. My dad said he'd keep us informed.

Yes, you read that right. My dad called my mom. My parents have been divorced since I was a child. I was very lucky to get the parents who didn't use their children as pawns and put them in the middle of their own crap. My parents decided to be adults and get along for the sake of the kids (imagine that?!). I'm sure at first it was difficult but we (my brother, sister and I) never saw or heard anything. Neither one has ever said a negative thing about the other to us kids. I wish all parents going through divorce could be so civilized!!

The day has finally arrived! Yes, I am talking about Sex and The City 2 premiering 5/27/2010. Of course I've seen it and loved loved loved it!! It is over-the-top, funny, serious, and a little raunchy......but for true SATC fans, it never disappoints!! The only thing I will divulge is that Suzanne Somers is mentioned in this movie. I was surprised and very happy as she and her books inspired me to start cooking. Oh, and the clothes.....again, you will not be disappointed! If you haven't yet seen this movie, please go. I can't wait to see it again and again!!

I also saw the preview for Eclipse, of the Twilight series. It looks very good and I can't wait for 6/30/2010. I will, of course, be there for opening night. Another of those previews they showed was of Eat, Pray, Love. This movie doesn't come out until 8/2010 but it's another movie I cannot wait to see. I've had the book since it first came out, but I haven't read it yet. So, this week I pulled it off of my bookshelf and will read it this weekend.

I wish everyone a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend.....

Running and Reality TV Night

I went for a run earlier and actually ran 3.0 miles!! Tried to do it on my last run and miscalculated, by a mile!! haha The temperature was 64*F, the humidity was 50%, and the winds were at 13 mph. The wind made me forget, and not feel, the humidity.

It was a great run, even though I started out too fast which made me really have to give everything I had in the last 1/4 mile. I am keeping the same schedule I had last week since I never even ran 3 miles in one run. The schedule is: Run 2 minutes/Walk 2 minutes X 9. Well, since I ran for 3 miles, I ended up actually doing: Run 2 min X 11/Walk 2 min X 10 + 1:13 min walk. Even though I was tired after the run, I really did feel great!

Since I ran so late today-- 6:15 PM, I am not going to do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. I would have had to do the workout within a 1/2 hr of getting home from running. Since I have been "feeling it" in my knee's after my runs and it has always affected my Shred workout when there's been a few hours between workouts, I think I made the right choice.

My knee's don't hurt after my runs, but I can feel my knee's. I can't really explain it. I honestly think it's because of the extra weight I carry on me at this time. But, I'm not a doctor, even though I self-diagnose all of the time!! My mom asked me once when I got my medical degree. Well, I read a lot and don't always take what the doctors say for fact...I've been misdiagnosed more than once!! Luckily nothing serious. But I really do enjoy doing research.....

As for my eating: today for breakfast I had a sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbucks, no whip. Well, it's better than nothing!! For lunch I had one of the turkey burgers I made the other day with a summer squash medley. After my run I had a Fuji apple w/2 Tbsp of peanut butter. And, for dinner tonight I had whole grain pasta with fresh grated Parmesan cheese with about 1 1/2 cups of steamed broccoli.

I'm still a little dehydrated. I have never had this problem before!! I have always been the one who drank more than enough water every day. Not sure why I no longer drink that much-- now I average about 4 cups a day. Definitely not enough, especially now that I am back to exercising regularly. I've already had 4 cups and I'm still trying to drink enough to make a total of 8 cups for today. Not sure if I'm gonna make it.

Well I watched Dancing With The Stars tonight. Can I say that I was very disappointed! First I think that Erin Andrews isn't as good as the judges try to say she is...and those ridiculous faces she makes...really, Erin?? Anyway, her Samba wasn't really that good. I thought it was an 8 or 9 dance....at most! And their freestyle---the contemporary piece--belongs on So You Think You Can Dance, and not DWTS!! That's my opinion anyway.

As for Evan and Anna....their Viennese Waltz was much much improved over their first one! I thought their dance was better than Erin/Maks Samba. Their freestyle was definitely frenetic but at least they were dancing!

And then there was Nicole/Derek. Their rumba was very good--again, much much improved over the first one!! I really felt their dance! Their freestyle was good, except for the flub at the end when Derek tried to lift Nicole.

Overall, I was totally underwhelmed and disappointed in all of the freestyles. I thought the best one was Nicole/Derek, 2nd best was Evan/Anna and last was Erin/Maks. Well, that's one girls opinion.

I was going to try and watch the Bachelorette (never seen this reality show before, despite the hype). Well, the little bit I saw was super boring introducing the guys. The ones I saw were bleh and I didn't bother seeing the rest. Maybe I'll try again next week to see if it's any good! Now, on to Real Housewives of New Jersey......

30 Day Shred-Day 9 & my weekend wrap-up

I am going to start by saying that I have a flip flop addiction!! I live in flip-flops (except for work & certain functions) most of the year. I probably own at least 30 pairs and counting! I tell you this so you can understand what I did Saturday morning.

So, on Saturday I got up very early. It wasn't to run or exercise, though, but to shop! Old Navy was opening at 7:00am because they were having their $1.00 flip flop sale. So, my mom and I went and stood in line--we got there 15 minutes before the store opened. We were part of the first group to be let in the store to shop. I went last year and it was a madhouse!! Sure, I got there after the store opened but people were crazy!!

This year they only let a certain amount of people in and everyone was nice and friendly and helpful (and I'm talking about the customers!!). We each got 5 pairs (the max allowed each person) and were in & out within 15 minutes! I will add that my mom went back later in the day and they had lifted the limit and people could buy as many as they wanted. I'm getting a few more since my mom got the wrong size for my sister and since they were only $1.00 she didn't want to return them. They are the size I wear (my sister wears 1 size up) so I'm excited for my "score"!! Below are the 5 I chose:

After that we walked over to Panera and had breakfast. I had looked up their menu last night to figure out what I was going to order. I normally order a cinnamon roll and hot cocoa but I am trying to make better choices so I ended up with a blueberry bagel with butter (their butter pats were about a tsp each) and hot tea.

My mom and I had a nice relaxing breakfast and then drove across town to the local farmers market. They just started it up for the summer season this month and not all of the vendors are out yet so it didn't take very long to wander through. One of the stands sells homemade tamales which I have enjoyed over the many years of the market. My mom had never been so I took her over and we ordered one for each of us and she ordered one for my dad. I had it later for lunch, and was as delicious as ever!!

After watching the SFGiants game I did something I never do......take a nap! I guess I was tired!! haha When I woke up I did a little housework and then did Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred--Day 8. I was still a little tired and really didn't want to do it, but I followed through and am glad I did! It was a great workout and felt a lot better after I was done.

Today, however, was a day to hang around the house. I wish I could say I accomplished a lot....but I'd be lying! I woke up late, but got at least 7 hours of sleep so it's all good. That's the most sleep I've gotten in a long, long time. Lately I've only slept for 4-5 hours a night....I really don't know how I've been functioning!?

This afternoon I watched the SFGiants get beat by the Oakland A's--yet again!! It's terrible when the starting pitchers are doing so well but the bullpen and the offense can't help them out. I'm one frustrated Giants fan!!

I got some more of my housework done today...and will do the rest tonight. On top of that I have been slowly doing my spring cleaning. Still need to go through my magazines. It takes me forever to get rid of them! I'm trying to figure out a way to keep my favorites without it becoming a problem (ie hoarding).

I completed Day 9 of the 30 Day Shred late this afternoon. I can really see the vast improvement since day 1. I did all of the push-ups cleanly (yes, using my knees) and tried to do the rest of the workout following the "advanced" trainer. The only part of the workout I still found a little hard to get through were the arm raises w/weights in the last group of exercises.

Even when I was thinner and exercised more often my arms were always very weak. This is frustrating for me now, but I'm determined never to have weak arms again!!

Today for lunch I had a turkey burger and Summer squash medley ( from one of Suzanne Somers cookbooks). I made the burgers and squash the other day and portioned it out for several meals.

The Summer Squash Medley consists of 2 each of patty pan squash, crookneck squash, and zucchini chopped into half-moon slices. After heating pan, saute the squash with olive oil for about 5-8 minutes, or until tender. While it cooks sprinkle with dill, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. You can find it in the book Suzanne Somers' Eat Great, Lose Weight.

I have all but one of Suzanne Somers' cookbooks and use many of her recipes. I saw her on TV back in 2003 promoting her third book: Suzanne Somers' Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away and went right out and bought it. Since then I have added her books to my collection and have always enjoyed trying out the new recipes. Sometimes I do adapt them to what I have in the kitchen at the time, but I have never been disappointed!!

Well, tonight I am eating whole grain pasta w/fresh grated Parmesan cheese and broccoli. (no picture, sorry)

Celebrity Apprentice is on now and it's the season finale. It's Bret Michael's and Holly Robinson Peete. I like both, but I really hope Bret Michael's wins. He's been my favorite since the first episode. Glad he made it to the finals and glad he's healthy enough to make it to the live show tonight!! I'm not into diet drinks but I think I'll try Bret's diet Snapple drink.

30 Day Shred and running

Every day this week the weather has been different and I feel like I am back in Colorado where you can really experience all 4 seasons in one day!! Mother Nature: this is Northern California where it is supposed to be springtime and almost summer. The weather is usually getting warmer this time of year--not colder! So, I would appreciate it if you could bring on the warmer weather. Thanks!!

Okay, so I didn't post yesterdays workout so here it is: I did the 30 Day Shred late late last night. It was Day 6 and was, by far, the best workout since I started this routine. I see so much improvement since Day 1, especially with the push-ups, all arm exercises, and the cardio.

I am so proud of myself to have gotten this far! I'm sure you're thinking, uh, it's only been 6 days Tina, what's so great about that? Well, prior to my committing to improve my life I would have done this routine a couple of times, thought it was too hard and then made excuses as to why I didn't have time, and than would have just stopped doing it. So, to have completed this routine 6 straight days (okay, I did miss 1 workout--but got right back on track!) is an accomplishment in and of itself!

Besides doing this routine I am still running. I haven't been this active in years!! Truthfully I have been slacking on my running routine, but have re-evaluated and am getting back on course. Which brings up today's run.

Well, I am getting bored with the route I have been running so I decided to try a route I haven't run in about 4 years. I mapped it out at 3.6 miles. This afternoon I got myself ready and ran this new route. The temperature was 64*F, humidity 46% and 18 mph winds. It was sprinkling earlier so I dressed accordingly. I wore long pants, a long sleeved 100% cotton shirt and my gray nylon hoodie.

The run was great and I felt fabulous throughout. My schedule this week is run 2 minutes/walk 2 minutes X 9. I knew it would be more than 9 reps since I was going to run 3.6 miles. When I was done I stopped the timer on my watch and saw that I had only done 8 full reps plus 36 seconds. I knew something was wrong, so when I got home I went back and re-mapped this route and found out I completely miscalculated it. The correct mileage for this route is: 2.46 miles, and not 3.6! Wow, big difference.

I am so disappointed that I didn't run as far as I was expecting. The funny thing is that towards the end I was going to run a little extra, but didn't. I wish I would have since it would have ended up being about 3 miles total. Oh, well...you live and learn, right?? Also, I have to make note that the last rep of the 2 minutes walking....about 1.25 minutes of that I actually ran.

I still have the 30 Day Shred to do later tonight. I am getting ready to eat dinner and watch the San Francisco Giants game. Then it's The Shred workout! I will post that workout tomorrow.

30 Day Shred--Day 5

I ended up taking yesterday off from Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I was planning on doing it after the San Francisco Giants game last night, but the game went into overtime and by the time it was over, I could barely keep my eyes open!! I'm just glad I ran earlier so at least I got one workout in!

So, today I did The Shred--Day 5. Yes, I'm halfway through Level 1!! Even though the weather today was terrible: 63*F and 72% humidity!! Seriously, if I liked humidity, I would have moved to the East coast!! Anyway, this weather makes me lazy....but I went into today's workout enthusiastic and full of energy!! Because I missed the workout yesterday I felt really guilty. I think it may have been a good thing since I had a great attitude about it today!!

So, today was the first time I didn't watch the timer on the dvd player to see how much time I had left (yes, I really did that!!) and was surprised when Jillian said we were almost done!! This was the best workout to date! I really focused and even though it was still tough, I saw great improvement since Day 1.

It put me in a great mood for the rest of the night!! Even when I watched my SFGiants lose 13-1 to the AZ Diamondbacks. I actually couldn't watch all of it because it was so terrible!! I also watched Criminal Minds, Modern Family and Top Chef Masters.

I had a piece of baked White Roughy for dinner tonight with a cup of steamed broccoli. While they were cooking, I ate a small artichoke (I steamed a few a couple of days ago) w/a low fat mayo dip with a dill/lemon seasoning call "It's A Dilly" from McCormack, although I read that it's now discontinued :(

A great run and it's Biggest Loser night!!

Yesterday was overcast and rainy....which always makes me lazy!! The "old me" would have skipped any and all workouts to just sit curled up on my couch reading or watching TV. Even though I did put it off for a while, I finally did the 30 Day Shred-Day 4.

It was a sweat-fest, as usual, but I did see a little improvement in my performance! That by itself motivated me to finish the whole routine!! I really did want to quit at the beginning...I'm telling you I become totally lazy and unmotivated when it's bad weather. Why do you think I hate wintertime so much?!

Today I am going to attempt 2 workouts....I am still not motivated to get up extra early to run or do any type of workout. I think I'll change my mind once summer is here and I can't run in the late afternoon/early evening, which I prefer!! But I did manage to run late this afternoon. It was 70*F and 50% humidity.

I'm not used to running when it's humid. I usually end up not running. However, I am trying to learn to get over all of these "ridiculous" excuses I've always had and just be the focused person I really want to be! Basically, I need to get over being lazy!!

Right now I'm going to watch my San Francisco Giants "hopefully" beat the San Diego Padres. And, at 8PM The Biggest Loser is on. This will be a good one (well, aren't they all really??) because they are training for a marathon, which I hope to do someday!! Can't believe this season is almost over......

After the Biggest Loser, I will do the 30 Day Shred. Yes it'll be late, but I am really a night person. I am just hoping that I don't have any problems with my knees!!

Two workouts--one day!

Yes, I actually was able to complete 2 workouts on Sunday!! Although, I have to say I probably should have done the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred before I ran...you live and learn, right?

I ran earlier and it was only 74*F but the humidity was 45%. Yuck!! I changed my schedule to run 2 minutes and walk 2 minutes X 10. I also increased my speed a little today. Well, I only did 7 of the 10. I wanted to run 3 miles today but only did 2.1 miles. It's better than none!! My legs really felt the changes. My muscles were pretty sore.....but in a good way. The reason I ended my run early was I was getting dehydrated and didn't bring water with me (again!)

A few hours later I did The Shred. My knee's were still sore from running today and I could feel it throughout the workout. I was mindful, especially when I had to do jumping jacks, etc.... I am happy to report that there was slight improvement in my push-ups!! Well, the "beginners" kind of course. The first set I was able to do decent push-ups without stopping. But, then when I came back to do the second set I could barely get through it!! Same with the arm raises later in the workout. But I still consider it a success!!

I am really bothered by my dehydration. My whole adult life I was the one who always drank plenty of water!! I always had a large water bottle with me. In the last year or two I still have the large bottle of water, but I find that, even when I'm home, I don't drink from it. All I know is that the more running and exercising I do, the more important it is for me to drink plenty of liquids. So, I am trying to get back on track so I will be fully hydrated every single day!!

No running today but did Jillian Michael's Shred....

I was still wide awake last night (or early this morning) at 3:00 AM so it's no real surprise that I overslept and didn't get my run in today. I woke up at 10AM thinking I could still run and then stop at the local Farmers Market on my way home. Then I checked the weather channel and it said that the temperature was already 77*F (which isn't bad at all) but that the humidity was 50%!! I went outside for a minute and thought, uh, no thank you, I will try again tomorrow morning!

I am not really a morning person and although I love to run I strongly dislike getting up early to do it! But with temperatures rising and summer almost here I think I'm going to have to become a morning run lover.....

So, instead I got myself ready, ran a few errands, and was home in time to see the San Francisco Giants vs Houston Astros game on FOX. I would have rather been at the game today, but, at least it was televised!

After the game I did the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. Overall, it's still hard but I can see that certain areas are getting a little easier to get through! The easier parts do not include the push-ups and the arm raises (done w/the side lunges & 5 lb weights). But, I'm still smiling at the end of the workout....and sweating!!!

Well, I'm off to make dinner. Yes, it's a little late, but I'm used to eating dinner around 8-9PM. I have no idea what I am making....either chicken breast or piece of fish; we'll see when I get to the freezer!! I do know I'm having grilled asparagus with it since I've been marinating it.

The Hills, Reality TV, & Real Life

I just read an article in US Magazine about Spencer and Heidi Pratt.....better known as Speidi. I don't usually believe what I read in these mag's, but the story does make me think about what's true and what's not in regards to what may or may not be going on in their lives. I have been watching the new season of The Hills and have been appalled by what I've seen so far. And, it looks like even more craziness is yet to come.

I know this reality show is scripted, and exaggerated, but watching Speidi's storyline this season is sad, troubling, confusing, and tragic. I don't know if it's all just for the ratings, or if we are actually watching Spencer descend into a total mental breakdown?! Either way, I don't see the outcome as being a positive one for this young man.

As for Heidi, what can I really say that hasn't already been said? A local TV station is re-running the first season of The Hills again and I am watching it for the first time. Seeing the vibrant, full-of-life, self-confident Heidi from the first season is a complete departure from the plastic surgery enhanced, sad, lonely, unsure Heidi we see today. She is a completely different person both inside and out.

How does someone change so drastically both emotionally & mentally over such a short period of time? Someone had to help her get there. By picking away over and over on a regular basis over a period of time, you can completely erode someone's confidence, and get them to not only believe what you want them to believe but do what you want them to do. It's disturbing to see it being played out on a TV reality show.....even if it's just a storyline!

Lately I have become more appalled than entertained by reality TV. The lengths to which people will go for their 15 minutes of fame is becoming more and more disgusting and disturbing every day. Who is to blame? The Hollywood executives, the reality "stars", the media, or those of us that watch all of this crap? Probably all of the above.

It seems that the reality shows are pushing the limits to engage in more fighting ---the more fireworks the better, at the expense of everyone's dignity. There's no better example than the Real Housewives franchise, of which I have watched since season 2 of OC in 2007. RHOOC was entertaining through season 3. However, season 4 was less so and the most current season (5) was almost unwatchable due to the meanness and negativity! Same with the NY franchise this current season (3). It, too, is so negative & mean spirited I have a hard time getting through each episode.

The Back-up Plan

I went to the movies and saw The Back-up Plan. I always enjoy Jennifer Lopez's movies, especially her romantic comedies. Overall, I liked this movie. There are a few pretty funny scenes and I, along with the others in the theater with me, laughed out loud!!

If you want to see a cute, fun(ny), enjoyable movie....this is the one to see.

Oh, and I have started the countdown to Sex And The City 2: It's 16 days away.

The Biggest Loser (season 9)-the final 4

Tuesday night TV is hard for me because so many of my shows are on at the same time: Biggest Loser, American Idol, the results show of Dancing With The Stars, and the San Francisco Giants baseball game. My favorite is Biggest Loser. I've watched this show from the very beginning back in October 2004. I've watched every season and every episode!

Although I've loved every season I think this season (the 9th)is the best so far! Except for Melissa (from the Red team)I didn't want any of them to leave! For me the best episode was a couple of weeks ago when they went to Texas to run in the 5K race. It was really inspirational and I found myself crying when they were running the race with some of the Texans who came out to support them! This episode came at the perfect time as it was a few days before my first 5K race. It gave me the confidence I needed.

Next week the remaining 4 contestants go home to train for a marathon. This is great because my goal is to run the San Francisco Marathon. I can't wait!!

I've always been inspired by this show, but until this season, never actually got my butt off the couch to follow through. This year has changed all of that and I have not only Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, but the entire season 9 cast to thank for that!!!

Crazy California weather and exercising

It has been so incredibly cold today! The day started out with black clouds, rain and the howling wind. The rain stopped and the clouds went away; but, unfortunately, the wind never let up! I think I'd rather have the overcast and rain. So, it was the perfect day to exercise since that would keep me warm!

I started the day with an ab workout (which I did not like but did anyway) and later in the day did the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It's very difficult but I actually enjoyed!! Tonight I ended the evening with an evening yoga routine.

I am trying to change my sleeping habits in order to get up earlier, but you can see how that is working out tonight since it's almost 12:30 am and I am still wide awake! Well, I'll try again tomorrow night!!

My new life

Yes, it's been awhile since I've written. I've spent this past week deciding, and then getting ready, to make changes in my life. I've had enough of making all of the easy but wrong choices and need to "steer the ship" in the right direction.

So, to start this ball rolling, I have cleared out my refrigerator/freezer/pantry and restocked them with good, quality, healthy food! I have been reading books and magazines on health, cooking, exercising, & wellness. I have been scheduling exercise for the week and menu's for eating. I am excited to now get started.....

I am taking this time to concentrate on me. I've spent most of my adult years always thinking about, or worrying about, someone else....to the detriment of my health and well-being. It's taken me a long time to get here, but I must start to live and enjoy life again!! Instead of sitting on the sidelines (as I have done for too long) I am jumping back in and taking control of this one life I have!! I don't need anyone's "permission" to be me.

Loop The Lagoon 5K--May 1 2010

My race started at 8:30am so I told my friend I'd meet her and her husband at 7:30am at the race site. I figured an hour to visit a bit and them warm up would be okay. She reminded me that people get there early and the parking can get a little crazy, so I decided to arrive around 7:00am.

So, I set my alarm for 5:00am. I decided I wanted to take my time getting ready so I could stay as calm as I could. I didn't sleep much the night before from the excitement. Luckily the race site is 5 minutes from my house. I live near the freeway so I just hopped on I-80 and it was 2 exits down from me. I arrived around 7:20 and there were a lot of people already there. I called my parents and they were actually right behind me.

I found Leslie and her husband and we chatted for awhile and then she walked me around to show me where we were going to start and finish. I found my parents and did the introductions. I can't believe I left my camera in the car :( Luckily Leslie's husband had his and so did my parents.

Finally, after warming up it was finally time to start. I decided to start towards the back of the pack because I knew I would start out slow and didn't want to get in anyone's way.

I heard the start horn but it seemed like no one was moving. But because there were so many people and they were packed in, it took awhile before we could even move forward. And, off we went......

I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to hear my watch when it was time for me to change between running and walking, but the crowds dispersed and I was fine.

During the first mile I was just trying to absorb and enjoy the moment! I kept saying to myself "OMG, I'm really doing this!". It felt good. Leslie told me to not worry about what the others around me were doing and to not get discouraged if someone with a stroller (even the ones w/two kids) went by me. I thought that would be tough, but it really wasn't.

During the second mile was the water station. Leslie told me to make sure I drank some water, so I did. It was strange for me to throw the cup on the ground, but everyone else was doing it, so....when in Rome, right?! There were so many people in this area that I didn't see it until it was too late--a guy standing there a few yards past the water stand with a garbage bag for the cups. Well, I'll know for next time!!

We were running alongside I-80 now. As cars were passing they were honking at us for support. Some of the runners waved and others said they were too tired!! I thought it was pretty cool and felt a little sense of pride that I was doing this.

Finally finished the second mile and we're back in the park. I was still feeling strong at this point, which made me very happy, especially since the weather was getting warmer by the minute & it was a little humid. Then we went up a trail (thank goodness it was my walking portion)and I recognized the area as one I hiked last summer.

Throughout the race there were volunteers standing in areas cheering us on or pointing each racer in the right direction. There were several different races going on: 5K, 10K, 10K Tower Challenge, 2 mile walk, and then later two kids runs. So, depending on our bib colors would decide which way we went at certain points.

The volunteers told us we were "almost there" and it was all downhill. Well, little did I know that it was all gravel?! Since I hiked on gravel last summer and ended up twisting my ankle and falling, I decided I would not run on it at all. I had to skip one of my run times but that's okay--better to be safe then sorry!
Then I was back on the pavement and I saw the finish line. A husband, wife, and a double stroller just passed me right before the end of the gravel. They, along with their friends, were taking up the whole trail. After I was back on pavement, I was feeling great and very strong so I decided to pass that group and run all the way in. It was hard to pass them at first since they took up so much space, but I finally got by them. I ran all the way in, faster than I normally do, but I wanted to finish strong.

I saw my parents and totally forgot to look at the timer as I ran in. I was so happy that I ran through the right lane at the finish line! haha That was my biggest fear, that I would run in the wrong lane at the finish....

So, I completed my first 5K. It was a great sense of accomplishment. I had the best time and cannot wait to do another race. My mom enjoyed watching it all and thinks she may want to walk a 5K. Go, mom!
